92 Ram150 5.2 cutting out

Q: dad has a 1992 ram 150 with 318 5 spd about 120k miles. truck has recently started missing/stuttering periodically. no real pattern of hot vs cold speed etc. feels like ignition is cutting out or starving for fuel. let off the throttle a bit runs fine. try to accelerate right away it sputters again. let off it runs fine. after a few minutes/miles you can speed up again without a problem. fuel filter has been changed. any ideas local rural shop is guessing $800 cdn computer... thanks in advance! dan .
