i dont know if this makes any sense but i seem to get a little bit better mileage if i turn off the od when im going under 45 mph. gary b. 01 dakota 3.9 regular cab. i know that the 3.9s dont get good mileage but it seems to be 13 ish all around and i dont rev hard on it etc. plugs are pretty new. i did put an oversized air cleaner in it. is that a problem what else should i check. guys with full sizes get more than i am per gallon. o2 egr o2s arent cheap though! i have a 97 dakota 2wd with the 3.9. it usually gets between 13 and 16 mpg even after a fresh tune-up. seems to be running fine. ken .

randy both are good tractors and will give you good service. the deere is a green painted kawasaki as another poster noted. there is a certain prestige in owning a deere but if i had to choose between the two id probably go with the best dealer. you just cant beat somebody willing to help when something is wrong. denny my dad is retired now and wants to spend my inheritance on toys. he told me to shop for a utility tractor with a front loader and a back-hoe in the 18-30 hp range. we are looking at kubota and john deere as there are no other brand dealers within reasonable distance from us. does anyone have any experience with this type of small tractor. is the deere that much better than the kubota to justify the 30% price difference do the kubotas hold up under moderate usage any advice appreciated. randy .

the cost isnt the issue imo. its using 2 batteries that are not used to being hooked to eachother. if youre going to run 2 batteries then should be a matched pair in brand age and cca. otherwise things could go badly and end up costing you 2 more new batteries. ive come up with a second battery. im wondering about the cost of installing the second battery setup in my 99 ram. i know there are stock parts available. ken .

stephen harding harding@cs.umass.edu wrote in from experience i disagree that fwd is better. ive driven both for years and i prefer rwd. i have to agree. with rwd if ya know what you are doing you can move the rear of the car with just a tap of the gas. you can avoid a accident or at least lessen it. with fwd you are screwed. i dont deny that fwd is decent in the snow. my wife drives a eldo but it is a damn heavy fwd. also it has blizzaks on it which improved it by about 75% over the factory tires. but get into a slide and you are pretty much along for the ride not so with rwd. but now you are assuming that everyone has the skills to put a car into a controlled skid under a panic situation and that is a complete load of bull. most people in that situation just hammer the brake and in that case front or rear wheel drive makes no difference. yes a skilled driver can make a rwd move in the snow but an inexperienced driver can easily do it with a fwd. as for the tire sizes and the t/a my wifes intrepid rt has the same size tires as my 80 t/a and it has no problems in the snow with them. so we agree it all comes down to the driver. and fwd!! vbg denny bfg -- if at first you dont succeed youre not cut out for skydiving .
