89 Dakota Water Leak

Q: i have an 89 dakota 3.9l v-6. leaking water somewhere. pulleys and belts are picking it up and slinging it everywhere. cant find source. hoses appear ok. water pump dry but fan is a little loose. could it be the pump thanks. da .

tom lawrence wrote leaking water somewhere. pulleys and belts are picking it up and slinging it everywhere. cant find source. hoses appear ok. water pump dry but fan is a little loose. could it be the pump most likely. on the underside of the pump theres a weep hole. when coolant comes out of this hole it indicates the internal seal is shot and bearing failure will soon follow. it may only weep when both under pressure and rotating if the seal is just starting to fail. i agree with tom. a good test would be to loosen all belts that contact the water pump pulley and check for sideplay and endplay of the water pump shaft. a little play would be normal for a used pump. if it has a lot of sideplay and/or endplay replace the pump... before it lets go and ruins your day. bryan .
