Q: i has exactly the same problem even a new batery and the problem still go on. the problem was the negative batery terminal corroed on the inner side i discovered this touching both terminals of the batery after cranking several times the positive terminal was cold but the negative terminal was hot so cant be current...and then a idea come to my mind bad electrical contact! i take the terminal and cleaned it with a sand paper. no problems at all since then. cbreddog cbreddog777@aol.com escribi en el mensaje hello. i am new on to this site but hope someone can help me. i have a 1997 dodge dakoda sport that wont start on its own. at work is when it first gave me problems and so i would have someone jump start me and the engine would start just fine. for a couple of days i wouldnt have any problems and then all of a sudden it wouldnt start again and i would have to get it jump start again. at first i thought about just not running the a/c which know was draining the battery. but thats not the problem. so i went to wal-mart and got another battery. well now the light in the cab is on bright but as soon as i turn the key to start the engine the light goes dim and i can hear the fuel pump relay clicking loudly and then fading out. nothing out of the engine and seems the battery voltage is dropped. i jump start the engine with my wifes van. in order to get it started i would have to press the gas pedel and it would start and then i would have slowly take my foot off the pedel if i take it off to fast then the engine would stop. but after that the engine would start and run just fine. once the engine was running i unplugged the positive lead on the battery and the engine would stay running. i just cant figure this out without paying $60 just to have it put on the computer i dont know if i was sold a weak battery or if it could be the starter but if so why do i have to press the gas pedel when i jump start it. i just had the fuel pump filter and modulator replaced less than 2 yrs ago so i am hoping to rule that out. any suggestion is welcome. thank-you. .

next time turn the ignition to on but dont go all the way to start. let it set there aboutg 5 seconds then crank. if it fires right off you probably have an internal leak in the fuel system. by waiting you give the pump time to pressurize the system before the injectors start firing. .
