84 dodge van heater blower

From : dodgevanfan

Q: blower works intermittently - usually when it goes below zero and you need it most. it was only working on high. ive read about the resistor block but dont know where it is on this vehicle. could someone direct me also read about heat going from defrost to dash vent at different engine rpm. i figured this was a vacuum issue confirmed on other posts and though i know vents are vacuum controlled and blower motor is electric i tried goosing the gas to vary vacuum and blower came on high - coincedence im sure. well i tried changing to lower blower speed and got nothing. put blower back on high heard a click somewhere near steering column and had no more high.is there a blower relay in all the mess of wiring under there thats not shown in the haynes manual and exactly where would that be extremely cold out and my father needs heat. tia john john if you have high blower only that is normally the heater resistor block and if memory serves me right its located behind the glove box i believe you have to pull out the tray to see it it has been awhile since i dealt with one of these older vans. if it is no blower period it could be the brushes worn out on the motor if it happens again hit the blower motor with your hand to see if it turns on when it is acting up. the part that worries me is the clicking noise you may be hearing in the steering console this could be an indication of an electrical circuit arcing for the blower motor if that is the case you need to look into that fast glenn beasley chrysler tech .

i went ahead and pulled the 87 res. block. father got home and i pulled the 84 - different and apparently already replaced - looks spankin new! i read somwhere abot a check valve loosing vacuum causing the defrost/dash vent shift. any idea what that would look like or where it might be located temp is supposed to be up into the 20s tomorrow. ill try again. .

....heavy window ice up worst on drivers side window. unlike any vehicle ive had. anyone else have this problem defrost setting cant cope seems like a humidity/venting issue. thanksdarby 2003 b1500 lowtop 3.9l .

i just went out and pulled the resistor block from the 87. thanks a lot. i dont know how long it would have taken to find it in this cold - 14 degrees in upstate ny. ill check the 84 when he gets back from doctors appt. john .

what it is 1995 ram 1500 4x4 v8-360 automatic transmission problem 1. im not much of a mechanic. 2. i know its kinda old but i really like it. 2. several months ago the headlight switch had a melt-down. my headlights suddenly just went off one night. i turned them off and then back on. they seemed to be working normally. a few weeks later the lights went out again. the problem became more frequent. i decided to take a look at the switch. the part of the switch behind the dashboard had many connectors parking lights interior lights etc but part of the assembly looked like it had melted. the oem replacement was about $100 so i bought the $30 one from napa. this is the part of the switch that plugs in to the female piece at the end of a bundle of wires behind the dash. this did not fix the problem - i think the end of the wire bundle was damaged during the melt-down. this whole problem also disabled my dash lights which the new part didnt fix either. a few weeks ago i decided to look at the switch again. i pushed the headlight wire out through the female end of the switch connected it to the male part wrapped it with electrical tape to isolate it and then pushed the whole assembly back together. the lights worked without going out for a few weeks but then started doing the same thing again. i can drive for an hour or so and then the headlights will just go out. sometimes just for a few seconds sometimes out completely. at this point i can turn them off and back on and they will work for a while and then go out again. question can i bypass this switch and splice the headlight wire & a power wire to a plain old toggle switch .

its also better to change plugs on a warm engine. however the best method to ensure the plugs come out is to change tham at the recommended intervals 30k or so. most plugs today already have an anti-sieze coating on the threads and when installing into iron heads nothing additional is necessary. however proper torque just like on any other component is required. if the plug has a crush washer on it the washer will appear tapered if you look at it closely the general rule of thumb is to tighten it 1/4 to 1/2 turn beyond finger tight. if the plug has a flat washer on it then its only 1/16 to 1/8 of a turn beyond finger tight. it may be easier to remove the plugs on a warm engine but never tighten cold plugs in a warm engine. if the engine is still hot or warm when installing the plugs screw them in until finger tight and then immediately back them off one full turn. be sure to give the plugs plenty of time to warm up to match the cylinder head temp before torquing them. .

from nosey kfrei43@removethis.hotmail.com date 2/2/2005 258 am central standard time mr. troll. the web.tv thing gave you away. you should have left that part out. it was almost a convincing post that i would have swallowed myself but bringing the attention to yourself posting from web.tv was what killed it. the post has many of the classic tried and true hoax virus characteristics common usenet trollers use. you picked these 1. identify yourself with the target demograpic. 2. qualifiy yourself as a subject matter expert or claim a personal relationship of one. 3. find a topic you think will spark a controversy within the demographic and take an opposite stand. pretty smooth but no dice. next time try explaining why you are a disgruntled employee and leave out the web.tv and fried computer thing. we also havent had a queen regular here in years. anyone remember her name im thinking it was sue i dunno ive been in here for a long time now started in 1997 and i believe i remember brent posting as fozzybearc@yahoo.com. seems to me to be the same person attitude and mannerisms as well. i dont recall a sue but i havent been in here continuously 24/7 either can you enlighten me about her now i do remember michelle havent seen anything from her in a very long time. robert .
