its a 1989 1/2 ton okay... gotta plead ignorance on this one - i dont know how the 4x4 system on an 89 works. i do find it strange that you have both manual hubs and an axle disconnect... usually its one or the other. .

hp wrote i have heard that also of folks are putting weight in the back of the trucks for winter driving. on my 04 1500 quad cab short bed with hemi how much weight is good to add whats the most cost efficient way. i have line-x in the bed but dont want to crap up the truck as its purpose is primarily towing my camping trailer in the good weather . what i did was to go down to the local tire shop and bought two five gallon buckets of old wheel weights. sometimes they will just give them to you and sometimes they sell them. think i gave the guy ten or fifteen bucks for the two buckets. anyway i melted the weights in a cast iron pot on the stove picking out the metal retainers. then poured the stuff into a 8x12 inch rectangular pan i had. after the lead cooled it popped right out of the pan. stopped at six of these lead bricks which gave me about 150 pounds on each side right behind the wheel well for a total of 300 pounds. actually about 500 pounds would have been better for my truck. make sure you have good ventilation where ever you work and remember this stuff will splatter if mishandled. be sure you bolt or strap them down if you dont want to find them in the front seat with you on a sudden stop. jerry .

and i have a set that fits the 94/95 dodge truck for sale unopened in the box great! if you find out who they are. you guys can buy my pair of 2004 1500 power mirrors. on sun 28 nov 2004 150755 gmt budgie breadfan@cybercom.net wrote just wanted to thank everyone for their responses via the group and email; ive made an appointment to have it done at the dealership as theyll fix it for $186 total which sounds quite reasonable in light of rammans estimate. btw i might not have been clear in my original post; it wasnt just the glass that got broken the whole unit was smashed. interestingly i found it in several yards in front of my truck but with no other damage iow it didnt hit my hood at all. i was parallel parked on a relatively narrow street so the logical assumption is that someone in a similarly-sized truck hit it with *their* passenger side mirror hopefully hard enough to at least cause them the same pain theyve given me! but considering that the whole unit flew that far without touching the hood makes me wonder if someone wasnt taking batting practice ... best ron ive never taken one off a ram but ive noticed on several other cars and trucks that they seem to be built to break away at sort of shear points.. .

if it was the diff it would be the same in 4 low 4 high and 2 high. the problem is clearly the transfer case. you did not state if it worked in 4 high. in any case put the truck on a lift and suspend the wheels and test. by removing the drive shafts one by one and testing the problem will reveal itself. steve hi all i just recently put in a rebuilt transfer case. today i had it locked 4 low backing up and the left rear wheel was acting like the brakes were on so i pulled on to the road and tried it again it it still did it. shifted into 2 high all is fine. my uncle said it sounded like the spider gear in the rear end. i guess it could be. any help would be great. truck info 1996 dakota 3.9 l 93000 miles thanks in advance tom .

not really sure but shouldnt you be able to take a hammer and pound the stripped stud out and just install a new one i have stupidly stripped the lug nut on the rear tire of my 99 dakota. i am going to drill out the stud. when removing the drum do the studs stay on the wheel axis or come off with the drum what is the proper troque for the nuts im not using the impact gun anymore to put these nuts on not tight anyway. kilmister .
