misconceptions abound. read on please 1 federal emissions law requires the manufacturer to cover the catalytic convertor cat for 8 years and 80000 miles regardless of number of prior owners. 2 all dodge ram gasoline-powered trucks operated in normal daily use -will- at some point need to have the original factory cat replaced long before 80k miles. with only moderate daily use of 30-40 miles a day your cat will have deteriorated to the point of qualifying for free replacement somewhere around 40-45k miles. brand and blend of fuel may make a slight difference +/- 10k miles. nope not all of them. my 95 has 89k on the original cat with no problems. granted a bunch of them have been replaced but id bet its less than 50% of the total trucks. 3 if you own a gasoline-powered dodge ram pickup that has more than 60k miles on it but is less than 8 years old and youve not yet had the cat replaced odds are probably 9010 that it needs to be replaced. we need to go to vegas on this.... 4 early symptoms any one or more a bad rattle-like sound that initially appears to be coming from something in the drivetrain when starting to slowly back up b first-time failure of the rear o2 sensor check-engine light may come on and off intermittently may seem like its fuel-related different gasoline brands sometimes appear to cause the light to come on 50-100 miles after fillup other gasoline brands cause it to go off 50-100 miles after fillup c 1-2 mpg deterioration in your already lousy fuel economy noticeable deterioration in acceleration 5 if youre still within the 8/80 window the cat replacement should be covered 100% -including- the y-pipe and all associated labor. the job is seldom done at the dealership and is almost always sublet to an area muffler shop. however you must take it to the dealer to have it done under warranty. they may or may not replace it with original chryco parts and you have no say in the matter. not should be it will be covered parts and labor with a dc supplied replacement cat not an aftermarket part. on the full size trucks it is fairly easy to replace the y pipe bolts on and there is only the one pipe to separate behind the converter. we do those in the shop. we do sublet the v-10s and some of the dakotas tho. no offence intended friend just clarifing a few points. g denny mopar440@aol.comedy.biz redneck tookover hell writes why anyone would think the catalytic convertor is making their engine skip is beyond me the cat convertor is covered by federal emissions standards for around 70000 miles or so ok here is my problem about two weeks ago my 00 4.7 started skipping under load. i figured out it was the catalytic converter a dyslexic man walks into a bra. .

any ideas from anyone that had this problem and actually found the problem and got it fixed right now were afraid to take this truck on the highway when this shaking happens its a scary situation. track bar is worn out. this is the bar that runs from the drivers side frame rail to the passenger-side of the front axle. its got a ball joint on the frame end and this joint wears out. to verify have someone turn the steering wheel back and forth enging running while you observe the bar. youll see the joint moving side to side as the steering is cycled. there should be no movement in this joint - any movement indicates a worn joint. there are several fixes. you can get a replacement track bar from the dealer. you can purchase an aftermarket replacement track bar i believe moog makes one. there are products to re-build your existing track bar http//www.blackhills.com/lindstad/ http//www.lukeslink.com/trackbar.html or you could go with an adjustable aftermarket track bar that uses a rebuildable heim joint instead of a ball joint http//www.dtprofab.com/dodge.htm .
