4.7 hesitation when cold

Q: have a 2003 ram 1500 quadcab. when first starting up it will hesitate to the point of being able to significantly depress the accelerator and the engine does not speed up. it almost stalls. hence i dont think it is the transmission. i plan to take it in under warranty but if anyone has experienced this and knows already what the problem may be id appreciate a heads up to pass on to the mechanic. gary .
