says... 1996 dodge ram 2500 5.9l engine i was changing my plugs and one broke. the body of the plug came out but the part that bottom part screws into the head is still in there. what can i do to remove this ive tried my tap and die i could not move it. out of all the plugs it had the most rust. ive wd40 it and will let it sit overnight. is there anything i can buy that will help me take this out im guessing it might have to be drilled out. if i have to take it to a shop what will something like this cost to fix please reply here and if you need more info just ask ill be checking the thread hourly! try pblaster instead of wd-40. cheaper and easier than drilling. ----------- alex .

water pump about two months ago. - john replacing the valve guides would involve removing the heads right yup. if you do decide to rip the heads off might as well install a new timing chain when you have it all apart. and maybe a water pump... .

i would say your caliper is stuck also it should be changed too.. a lot of people say you should change both calipers at the same time too!! 2000 dodge ram 2500 cummins.... i havent climbed underneath the truck yet but im pretty sure i have badly scored my lf brake rotor. i have a question for anyone that might have changed their rotors themselves. i have the shop manual and it looks like you have to remove the hub-bearing assembly from the steering knuckle and then free the rotor from the inside of the flange connected to the outside of the bearing/hub. the manual shows the rotor with a kind of square center hole that is cut out large enough to fit slide the hub through. but the after market rotors ive seen napa and pep boys have a round center hole through the rotor that doesnt look near as large as the shop manual drawing. does anyone know if the hub/bearing assembly will fit through the round center holes that are listed for this vehicle in other words are they showing me the right xref the manual might just be trying to show a cut-away version to make a point but it looks a lot different. dodge wants $192 for the rotor and aftermarket sells for $60 to $100. also dodge dealer says dont try it at home... the axle nut can be a pain. ive done jeeps that are similar so im willing to give it a start if nobody has bad experiences to the contrary. while im on a roll... any ideas why inner pad would wear completely while outer pad shows little wear sticky caliper slides stuck piston thanks.. jack .

you can just look thru the vents at the bottom of the windshield. didnt see any ice build up. i had a similar problem with an 02 ram whereas the wipers intermittently stoped working and also clicked when i tuned the switch on. took it to an local garage that i trusted as well as to the dealership. both places confirmed a bad motor. becasue it happened right after the warranty expired i was able to get the dealer to reduce parts & labor cost by 50%. david... yeah ill try just to see if it isnt froze by letting it warm up in my moms garage but i think you are right about the motor thanks for the help. mjp .

it is not the valve that you need to replace it is the valve seal. the compressed air is used to hold the valve in place while you remove the valve spring retainer and spring which is required to get to the valve seal. -- if at first you dont succeed youre not cut out for skydiving rick how do you replace the valves without out removing the heads also what does the air compressor have to do with changing the valves john yeah ive thought that restore would probably work well except only under just certain conditions i.e. scored cylinder walls. wouldnt do anything for an oil control problem originating in the heads which i think the vast majority of oil-control problems are. glad to finally hear from someone who has actually used that stuff and that you had positive results. yea its the only one thats made any noticeable difference on oil consumption. and the engine did run better. it was a high mileage 300k kms 318. .

all im having a strange issue with my 95 ram 2500. ive taken it to two shops one couldnt find the problem the other blamed the starter which i replaced and it didnt help. basically there are two issues; first when i try to start the truck the starter spins the engine kicks a bit and doesnt start. if i crank it over a few times turn key let starter run for about a second stop repeat it fires up. when it starts it runs very rough for about 5 seconds then revs up to about 1k and drops back in to a smooth idle at 700. my guess is a sensor somewhere in the start/ignition systems but i cant figure out which. the other issue is at highway speeds the thing stalls out occasionally. basically ill be driving along at about 60 all of a sudden pushing the gas pedal starts doing nothing to my speed. the best i can explain it is that when i tap the gas the rpms actually go down a bit when i let back up the engine revs up for a second then stops. pushing the gas makes it sound like the timing is off knocking/cylinder misfires letting the gas up makes it sound better. at that point when i pull over as the speed approaches 0 so do my rpms and i stall out. if i let the truck sit for 5 minutes or so it starts up again and runs fine. both of these things started yesterday morning and i had a great drive home pulling over every 5 minutes to get the damn thing started again. i put a scan tool on the truck -- no codes none at all. i went to two shops last night one had no clue the other said starter. i replaced it last night it didnt fix anything i didnt expect it to. help!!!!!!! .

i have a tap tap tap noise coming from my engine 2001 ram 1500 5.9l. all fluid levels are good. the noise is audible when i pull away from a stop til about 45mph i think this is when the overdrive kicks in or until i ease back on the gas and maintain a constant speed. anyone have any idea what might be the cause thanks. .

you have not been very specific but if the engine is being dragged below 800 rpm when in gear you can consider this normal. the computer could be seeing a speed less than idle and it will raise the idle accordingly. this practice is unhealthy and should be avoided because the oil pump will not deliver adequate oil for the load. if this is occurring above 900 rpm you should be looking for a vacuum leak ie. hose brake booster egr valve thermostat pcvetc. steve now this is something my daks done since i got it. at first i thought it was user error. there was a big gap between purchasing my previous truck 1991 and this one 2001 so i wasnt sure if it was a technology thing. over time i just got used to it. but i wonder sometimes... in first and sometimes in second gear when going really slow the truck will lunge forward a bit back to normal forward back. sometimes just a bit sometimes quite a lot. kind of like a dog lunging on a leash. not sure if its even particularly noticible outside the truck but sure is inside. hope i described it well enough. it doesnt do this at any other time just at the very bottom of first gear - if i went much slower itd stall - and sometimes at the very bottom of second as well. any thoughts jmc .

i am going to change my fuel filter this weekend and wondering if there are any extra needed tools to change it it is a 2003 dodge ram 1500. can i just take the old filter out and install the new one seems like i would have to rebuild the pressure rebuilding the pressure would not be one of your tasks. leave that up to the fuel pump. working on your own truck can be very rewarding. you ought to pick up a maintenance manual so there would be less chance of something going wrong. -- fmb only one b in fmb .
