Q: on wed 16 feb 2005 154833 -0700 jim hall jdhall@nospammolaplateng.co wrote my 97 cummins pickup has had repeated air leaks at the valve stem on the drivers side front. ive wasted over half a day in 1-hour increments at the tire shop for repeated free flat repairs - with a new stem installed each time. so im doing a slow burn as i enter the tire place last week with another stem leak. the new counter guy is older than usual for these places and ive never seen him before. i explain my problem and *frustration* and he immediately asks me if i have a 3/4 ton dodge pickup. i havent told him what im driving he doesnt have my account on the screen yet and he hasnt seen me pull in. apparently this isnt just a lucky guess. he says some problem in the manufacturing process leaves the inside surface of the rim uneven and/or burred. this often causes valve stem failures in dodge rims. i now have a fancy metal stem in this particular rim. so far it is holding air. has anyone else heard of this it was to me. youre changing the air in the tires on a regular basis arent you if you dont the air molecules eventually get all squished down in size so small they will slip by the valve stem seal sometimes. or you could just use chevy air it holds up better... jim hall david djonesatlsidaho.com http//www.motosports-boise.com/rmd .

gary wrote so they are supposed to be replacing the engine in my 2003 ram quad cab this coming week. anyone have knowledge of whether they will reuse the old plugs wires belts from the existing engine or will these be new as well i ask since i have nearly 30k on the engine parts and if they are installing the new engine i might as well replace the other parts at the same time. i would think it would save time to to have new parts rather than pulling them off the old engine but who knows. i dont really want to ask the dealership since they could decide to charge me for parts they were going to provide anyway. paranoid cheap yes. gary depends on your shop and what you tell them to do. be specific talk to the mechanic ahead of time and save them a lot of work. you get what you pay for if youre lucky. -- ..bob 1997 hd fxdwg - turbocharged! 2001 dodge dakota qc 5.9/4x4/3.92 1966 mustang coupe - daily driver 1966 ffr cobra - ongoing project .

catman 1 nh wrote 97 dodge dakota ext cab. 4x4v8auto any ideas what is causing how to fix what appears to be rear end noise gets louder with speed but does not change pitch same loudness when coasting in neutral does not appear to be axle bearings or tires or brake shoe drag should i take off the rear end cover to investigate if so what do i look for thanks for your help. you dont say how many miles but i would guess 60-80k. thats usually about right for a pinion bearing. corporate dodge diffs are famous for this and its usually the left one. youre going to have to rebuild it. non-ls can usually be done for about $500-600 lsd around $800. if youre thinking about changing the gear ratio or adding lsd nows the time to do it. did you mean carrier bearing and if not what exactly is the left pinion bearing -- if at first you dont succeed youre not cut out for skydiving .

the story 1988 dodge power ram 3/4 ton 4x4 pickup. excessive camber toe out on left front tire. i stood down the street about 50 feet in front of my truck when it was parked on level pavement and i held a one foot long ruler in front of me and sighted it up to the line of the front axle housing. the axle housing looks to be slightly bent downward. also the left front tire is toed out. the truck drives just fine and its not making any noises vibrations nor is handling or cornering a problem. my questions are perhaps the axle tube is bent or perhaps the steering mechanisms are bent if the axle housing is bent and its not causing any driving difficulties would it be safe to drive this truck for the short term until i could get it repaired .
