the 3.92s sure didnt help your mileage any. whats your rpm at highway speed just curious. o. my everyday stop and go/ country road type mileage went up about a mile per gallon and my highway dropped a couple. ill post back with the rpms i guess i dont pay that much attention to the tach. it only made about 200-250 rpms difference with the gears but i went from 31 inch to 33 inch tires about the same time. denny ok i paid a little attention to the tach. 60 mph is right about 1700 rpm give or take a needles width. denny .

hi scott i dont have an answer but feel your pain. i had a 95 2500 with the same shifting symptoms. i lived with it for 4 years since no one could find an answer other than replace the tranny. letting off the gas to shift to second was a small price to pay as opposed to a new transmission. i wound up trading it in with that problem for an 03. --mike i had the overdrive section of my auto transmission in this truck turn into a nice soupy mixture of metal shavings awhile back. since the truck had about 130k on it and the engine was getting tired i ordered up a rebuilt v6 and tranny from aftermarket sources. the tranny i received was date stamped as an 89 model but except for different sized fittings for the cooling lines everything appeared to fit the same and it went back together just fine and is running. ive rebuilt many engines but ive never really gotten into auto transmissions before but here are the symptoms of a problem that has come up. the truck holds a lower gear for way too long. when in drive the rpms go to near red-line without shifting. to force a shift it is necessary to get the speed up then let off the gas pedal a bit. at highway speeds it runs just fine so this issue only appears at

i was starting to feel a little left out. bg if there is anything else that comes to mind give a yell. that alpine deck i mentioned should be right up the lane you were thinking about. awesome unit i now have it in my truck and love it. sorry for the joe bit but he replied too *and* signed his name...so it stuck with me so thank you too azwiley1. thats the info i was looking and hoping for. --mike thanks joe ok. anyway! you can just replace the head unit just make sure you connect the blue wire on the harness from the new radio to the blue wire on the harness adaptor for the truck. hi joe thanks for the input. what if i just want to replace the head unit and keep all else the same iow wire the new head to the infinity amp etc big deal does crutchfiels have a harness for it thanks. --mike all true. because the oem head unit infinity amp and factory crossovers are all hooked into the factory harness its necessary to rewire right from the new head unit to an aftermarket amp if applicable to the new crossovers and to the new speakers. its not a trivial job but probably worth it if the new components are decent. joe black 03 dakota 5.9 r/t cc calypso green 93 5.0 mustang lx hatch with a few goodies azwiley1 azwiley1@spamearthblowslynk.net wrote in michael i have been doing car audio for almost 13 years a lot on and off but none the less i can tell you it is not as easy as just installing a new head unit. each vehicle is different. the problem lies here though if you install say the alpine cda-9811 am/fm/cd/mp3/wma player w/built in eq and crossover which is a 50x4 unit and you connect the amp trigger lines together guess what you just negated the power on the deck and are only using the amp in the truck. you have to completely by pass the amp in the truck by running new wires to the speakers to tapping in to the factory wires past the amp to use the features of the new unit. the same would apply if you added a new amp to the new deck. hope this helps and clears it up some. hi joe so would replacing the head unit be a simple exercise if the amp is seperate i want a unit that will play mp3s on a cd. the stock unit on my 03 will not. it is the infinity system btw. --mike iamgoode@aol.com iamgoode wrote in im looking to upgrade my factory stereo ive blown 3 infinity speakers now and im ready for something else. i want to replace the front speakers wtih better quality but the same size and put something a little larger in the back doors its a quad cab. my questions are does the back speaker set up have a cross over in the premium factory system would seperates or coaxial work better in the back anyone have luck running any larger speakers under the factory grilles recommended wattage ratings thanks. sean rec.bicycles.marketplace the 00 dak sound system is similar to the 03 which is what i have. the basic layout is this stock oem head unit about 5 watts/channel rms speaker leads feed the infinity amp about 15 watts/channel rms in the passenger kick panel which in turn drives the speakers. btw the infinity amp is very heavily eqd to compensate for the lousy speakers. in the cc the front speakers are components whereas the rears are simply coaxial. dont know about the qc rears but the fronts are the same. the crossovers are somewhere in the wiring between the speakers and the infinity amp which is garbage btw. assuming youre not going with a subwoofer your best bet is to get a new head unit an aftermarket amp if you can afford it and 4 component speakers. components will almost always sound better than coaxials - you just need adequate power for them. on the qc the woofer size is 6-3/4 all around. some components come with tweeters mounted in the woofer others have separate tweeters like the fronts in your qc. regardless theyll all have crossovers. either way youll be able to find components that can fit. also make sure you get adquate wiring based on your amps rating. joe black 03 dakota 5.9 r/t cc calypso green 93 mustang 5.0 lx hatch with a few goodies .

im with tl on this. ive had the same experience go with the westin. westin may be a few bucks more but in this case you do get what ya pay for. roy i dont think the westins are mounted to the frame but to the body panel with some sort of bracing between the two connecting points. has anyone had any negative issues with this i dont think ill be using it for a step but my first wife 118# and my mom 80+ years old will. -- fmb only one b in fmb .

another way is to jack up both wheels and with it in neutral turn one of the wheels. if they both turn together same direction you have a limited slip. if they turn in opposit directions you have an open rear. thats true in this case for the clutch-type lsd in the durango but not always true. for instance the gear-type lsd in american axle units on the new rams cannot be tested in that manner as they require some drag on the unloaded wheel to activate the ls mechanism. in the air with no load they will act like an open diff when performing the above test. tbone wrote my durango seems to only have one drive wheel! after driving through a muddy area i noticed that only one side of the vehicle had mud spun on it. ive tried to get both wheels to spin but can only determine that one wheel propels the vehicle. isnt a limited slip required to be called 4x2 thats how this vehicle is presented on the window sticker. how can i tell if i have a limited slip axle can i make chrysler put one in since this is supposed to be a 4x2 where did you come up with this 4x1 and 4x2 thing a 4x2 simply means 2 wheel drive one axle regardless of the rear diff type so either way you have a 4x2. open rears tend to favor one axle but i forgot which one. there are many ways to determine what type of rear it has. the easiest way is to read the sticker that is under the hood if it is still readable. another way would be to jack up one rear wheel and with the truck in neutral and the emergency brake off try and turn the wheel. if you can turn it you have an open rear. another way is to jack up both wheels and with it in neutral turn one of the wheels. if they both turn together same direction you have a limited slip. if they turn in opposit directions you have an open rear. limited slip diffs have both good and bad points and one of the bad points can be dangerous so unless it is requested when someone orders the truck they usually dont have them. .

have a 92 ramcharger...200000 miles on all original drivetrain. has never failed once. it aint a soccer moms vehicle but imho the last of the real trucks. btw....92 and 93 gets you the magnum engine with additional hp and for some reason gets you a little better mileage than the newer rams. 92 318 is a magnum the 360 is not. al on thu 5 feb 2004 131846 -0600 trailblazer sundancekidz71@yahoo.com wrote hi all i was recently looking through a truck trader when i saw a few late 80s to about 91 model 1/2 ton dodge trucksthe older style not the kenworth 94 look anyway; are these decent trucks some i saw had fuel injection as well; does the 4x4 work well any opinions would be appreciated thanks! tb i missed the last question. i have a 92 4x4 w250. the 4x4 works well considering the axles are both open no limited slip. i had a 90 d150 with the ls rear axle and it was also very good in rough situations. owned some 4x4 gm and ford pickups too they are all about the same in off road performance. i like the older dodges because they are simple tough and cheap to purchase used. i would suggest you find a manual transmission truck. tough as nails and even lower in price. the clincher would be to look under the hood of a new truck then a older one. then picture yourself trying to work on them. al .

the govt nhtsa mandates those airbags thats what they had to do with the safety features designed into the truck. it is also the government that made the distinction of what constitutes a 4 door vehicle. if the rear doors can be opened only after the front is opened then they get an airbag on/off switch like the older qc design or the current chebby. if they can be opened independently then the mfg cannot offer the switch. i dont follow that governmental logic myself. however nhtsa offers a waiver where you can have one installed. http//www.nhtsa.dot.gov/airbags/brochure/reqform.html there are situations where airbags are dangerous but safety measures are a personal choice. some ride motorcycles without helmets some dont wear seat belts others refuse to wear safety glasses while using power tools. and some of us run with scissors! on fri 13 feb 2004 031400 -0600 mike simmons mikesim@fidnet.com wrote only one b ill bet you think the govt is only acting in your best interest dont you unless youre the lead sheep the views always the same. merlin what the government has to do with the saefty features designed into your ram is beyond me. are you so obtuse that you fail to realize the inherent safety of keeping your daughter in the back seat where by design she is safer in the event of a frontal impact you posted a query in this ng you got answers some telling you how to disable the airbags if you so choose others pointing out the folly of your quest. you make the choice after all it is your daughters life that you are compromising.... if you can live with that so be it.... but maybe she wont. mike hi ive just bought a 04 ram 1500 quad cab and am very happy with it. i have an 8 year old daughter who goes everywhere with me and i need to disconnect the passenger side air bag to make it legal and safe for her to ride in the front with me. the quad cabs dont have the key switch in the dash supposed to stick the kids in the back seat. i think i found the plug above the glove box yellow with an orange plastic tab but am unsure about messing around with it and getting the bag to function with my noggin right in front of it. is this the right plug how do the air bags actuate thanks merlin. merlin if you are so concerned for her safety as you appear to be then put her in the back seat where she will be safer. quit trying to beat the safety system in the truck. if something happens i hope nothing does and she gets hurt in the front seat you will alway wonder if it was partially or fully your fault for not having her in the back where she belongs. -- fmb only one b in fmb .

lol! how old are you ive owned many vehicles over the years both with and without anti slip and on the ones without it the right tire always lays the rubber. this is not rocket science. obviously older than you as far as my mechanical knowledge. this has been explained several times it is not always the right tire that spins on an open differential. anyone who has gotten stuck in the snow knows this by experience. and no its not rocket science its a matter of friction and which tire has less. somehow a bunch of you just dont get it. max anvils dont kill cartoon characters cartoon characters kill cartoon characters. .

i was making my third oil change in my 03 ram w/ 4.7 v8 this afternoon and noticed a milky coffee colored residue on the inside of my oil filler tube. it looks like oil and water mix..that has gotten pretty hot and is now kind of slushy. i checked the oil that i dained from the pan and it was all black with no signs of water or the milky white substance. it looks like the whitish colored gunk is entering the tube from the pcv valve. has anyone else had this problem i thought the purpose of the pcv valve was to pull vapor and pressure from the crankcase i am just trying to figure out how so much moisture might have gotten and still be in the line from the block to the pcv assembly. i am going to take it to the dealership in the morning but just curious to see if anyone else has ever experienced this. thanks. its a normal condition on the 4.7. not a good one though. the dealer fix is to place an insert into the filler tube that will mask but not eliminate the condensation residue. wayne .

carfax is full of shit and i am surprised they havent been sued yet. do they know how many repairs and wrecks are handled under the table i smash my car into a tree fix it myself and they magically know this riiiiiggghhht. it just seems to me a whole lot of things can be done to a vehicle that car fax would have no way of knowing about. where does their info come from and to use your example what would be wrong with buying a repo car any car needs to be checked out. just because theyve been repod or in a flood or wrecked doesnt mean they arent worthy. just seem like too many variables to me. not every thing is black and white when it comes to cars and repairs and mileage and this and that and and and.... -- steve barker ========= as far as im concerned carfax is a joke. too many people being sucked in by this. -- steve ========= it saved me from buying a repo car once. so it may be a joke most of the time but sometimes its worth it. .
