2500 Front brakes service limit ??
From : eldon jons
Q: i have a 2001 4x2 2500 cummins qc with 61000 miles on it. lately the front brakes were squealing a little when braking hard pulling my trailer so i figured it was time for some new pads. i stopped at schucks and picked up a set of raybestos lifetime pads for $49. this morning i pulled off the front wheels and found that i still have 1/4 of pad left all the way around. i see the new pads 7/16 thick show no rivets and the squealers stick out only about 1/16 from the steel carrier. has anyone changed their original pads on the dual caliper style are they riveted i cant see any squealers on them but think i should be able to run them thinner than 1/4. what is the service limit on them thanks! so long.... =9b=9b=9b=9b=9b=9b=a0eldon ; http//community.webtv.net/ejutah/acpictures http//community.webtv.net/sodakid2/allallischalmers .

any opinions by users of cooper ast and uniroyal laredo awp tires theyre one of the few options in the old 16.5 size on my dodge. tia have not used a ast. but have used other cooper tires in the past and found cooper to be a decent tire. roy .

for $49.00 is it worth damaging the rotors -- if at first you dont succeed youre not cut out for skydiving i have a 2001 4x2 2500 cummins qc with 61000 miles on it. lately the front brakes were squealing a little when braking hard pulling my trailer so i figured it was time for some new pads. i stopped at schucks and picked up a set of raybestos lifetime pads for $49. this morning i pulled off the front wheels and found that i still have 1/4 of pad left all the way around. i see the new pads 7/16 thick show no rivets and the squealers stick out only about 1/16 from the steel carrier. has anyone changed their original pads on the dual caliper style are they riveted i cant see any squealers on them but think i should be able to run them thinner than 1/4. what is the service limit on them thanks! so long.... eldon ; http//community.webtv.net/ejutah/acpictures http//community.webtv.net/sodakid2/allallischalmers .

i used to work at a service center and we did brakes and general service i would guess you still have some wear on the pads you have. the squeelers are designed to give you a safety margin but if you are that far from them you can run awhile.....just be sure to recheck them frequently. it might be just as good to change them now that you have looked at them and purchased new ones and start a new. for $49.00 is it worth damaging the rotors -- if at first you dont succeed youre not cut out for skydiving i have a 2001 4x2 2500 cummins qc with 61000 miles on it. lately the front brakes were squealing a little when braking hard pulling my trailer so i figured it was time for some new pads. i stopped at schucks and picked up a set of raybestos lifetime pads for $49. this morning i pulled off the front wheels and found that i still have 1/4 of pad left all the way around. i see the new pads 7/16 thick show no rivets and the squealers stick out only about 1/16 from the steel carrier. has anyone changed their original pads on the dual caliper style are they riveted i cant see any squealers on them but think i should be able to run them thinner than 1/4. what is the service limit on them thanks! so long.... eldon ; http//community.webtv.net/ejutah/acpictures http//community.webtv.net/sodakid2/allallischalmers .

you are braking hard and towing a trailer. change the pads---!!! $49.00 for the set--cheap at twice the price for piece of mind. run them down farther and you increase your likelihood of having the remaining pad material fail due to any number of reasons leaving you with no brakes. tell you what ill ask the service manager at my dealership what he thinks---whoops--i am the service manager at my dealership. change the pads and turn the rotors if you have any indication of warpage or surface distortion. .

toxictavrn@aol.com toxictavrn wrote you got 61k out of your front brakes thats 3 times what i get out of mine! unbelievable aint it.....and i pull a lot of trailers in the mountains with no engine brake! but then again im not an aggressive driver and will coast up to a stop light instead of slamming on the brakes 50 feet from it like a lot of drivers do. are yours the dual calipers i know a guy with a 96 cummins that had to change his brake pads every 16k. so long.... =9b=9b=9b=9b=9b=9b=a0eldon ; http//community.webtv.net/ejutah/acpictures http//community.webtv.net/sodakid2/allallischalmers .
