vipers and corvettes come from the factory with synthetic because they are broken in at the factory. truck engines are not broken in at the factory. it does make a difference. if you put synthetic oil in a new engine prior to 7000 miles on the odometer you run the risk of the rings not seating properly. ever notice that during the first 5000-8000 miles a new trucks engine seems to get stronger and your fuel mileage a little better this is because your rings are seating. once you hit 10000 miles you wont see any additional perfomance differences because everything is usually set by then. i waited until after 10k miles to put my synthetic in. my engine runs a little cooler now thats about it. but with all of the towing that i do with my 2003 quad cab 4x4 i welcome the added protection that synthetic gets me. steve vedell not so at least not the corvette. the m-1 is factory fill because it runs cooler / dissipates heat faster than dino oil. but please dont tell me that the engine in my z06 was broken in for me cause it just aint so. fact some of the earlier z06s did have a oil burning problem due to a weak ring at about 3- 4k. had nothing to do with the oil. that would have shown up if as you claim they were broken in at the factory. the last thing gm wanted to do is tear down and r&r the rings on about 1000 ls6 engines in a 50k car. roy .

not true. moly rings seal almost immediately and long break ins are unnecessary. vipers and corvettes come from the factory with synthetic because they are broken in at the factory. truck engines are not broken in at the factory. it does make a difference. if you put synthetic oil in a new engine prior to 7000 miles on the odometer you run the risk of the rings not seating properly. ever notice that during the first 5000-8000 miles a new trucks engine seems to get stronger and your fuel mileage a little better this is because your rings are seating. once you hit 10000 miles you wont see any additional perfomance differences because everything is usually set by then. i waited until after 10k miles to put my synthetic in. my engine runs a little cooler now thats about it. but with all of the towing that i do with my 2003 quad cab 4x4 i welcome the added protection that synthetic gets me. steve vedell should not matter at all. vipers come new from the factory with synthetic. why not wait until your first change to switch no point in throwing out perfectly good oil. im looking at switching to synthetic oil in my new truck. should i hold off until the first 3000 miles are past or can i switch it out whenever im ready anybody notice a difference in gas mileage switching to synthetic thanks .

another question how many miles before you can use synthetic in a 2003 cummins iirc cummins recommends 10-20k before using synthetic. mike tp0yb.20758$w7.20640@big1.bellsouth.net bigape no1bigape@msn.com wrote vipers and corvettes come from the factory with synthetic because they are broken in at the factory. truck engines are not broken in at the factory. it does make a difference. if you put synthetic oil in a new engine prior to 7000 miles on the odometer you run the risk of the rings not seating properly. ever notice that during the first 5000-8000 miles a new trucks engine seems to get stronger and your fuel mileage a little better this is because your rings are seating. once you hit 10000 miles you wont see any additional perfomance differences because everything is usually set by then. i waited until after 10k miles to put my synthetic in. my engine runs a little cooler now thats about it. but with all of the towing that i do with my 2003 quad cab 4x4 i welcome the added protection that synthetic gets me. steve vedell should not matter at all. vipers come new from the factory with synthetic. why not wait until your first change to switch no point in throwing out perfectly good oil. im looking at switching to synthetic oil in my new truck. should i hold off until the first 3000 miles are past or can i switch it out whenever im ready anybody notice a difference in gas mileage switching to synthetic thanks .

bmw ag suggests waiting until more than 12000 miles in order for the rings to properly seat. i doubt if youll see an mpg increase. maybe a bit cooler oil temps. aside does anyone think that the first oil change should be at 3000 or 6000 miles i remember some old theory was to change the oil at 600 miles just to flush out the bits left from machining. bent .

guess i was wrong about synthetics. i just found this on mobil1s website http//www.mobil1.com/index.jsp. when i learned to rebuild engines i was told that synthetics did not promote break-in of the rings. evidently modern additives have changed all that. they even say you can use it with diesels now. -- steve vipers and corvettes come from the factory with synthetic because they are broken in at the factory. truck engines are not broken in at the factory. it does make a difference. if you put synthetic oil in a new engine prior to 7000 miles on the odometer you run the risk of the rings not seating properly. ever notice that during the first 5000-8000 miles a new trucks engine seems to get stronger and your fuel mileage a little better this is because your rings are seating. once you hit 10000 miles you wont see any additional perfomance differences because everything is usually set by then. i waited until after 10k miles to put my synthetic in. my engine runs a little cooler now thats about it. but with all of the towing that i do with my 2003 quad cab 4x4 i welcome the added protection that synthetic gets me. steve vedell not so at least not the corvette. the m-1 is factory fill because it runs cooler / dissipates heat faster than dino oil. but please dont tell me that the engine in my z06 was broken in for me cause it just aint so. fact some of the earlier z06s did have a oil burning problem due to a weak ring at about 3- 4k. had nothing to do with the oil. that would have shown up if as you claim they were broken in at the factory. the last thing gm wanted to do is tear down and r&r the rings on about 1000 ls6 engines in a 50k car. roy .
