2004 Dodge Ram 1500 Front Wheel Hub Assy.

From : johnnycc

Q: a mechanic after driving my truck told me that the loud roaring sound was from the right passenger side wheel bearing was bad and for $500 he would replace it. i bought a new hub assy for $130 and did a very easy replacement myself. i still have the roaring sound and think that maybe it is the front left driver side bearing. are front wheel hub assemblies non front abs interchangeable from left to right -- more information at http//www.talkaboutautos.com/faq.html .

thanks everyone. good advice. i did ask the mechanic that said it was the right wheel bearing if i shouldnt replace both. he said no because the other one may last another 100000 miles. i have to agree with you all. the truck has 83000 miles. so thats 83000 on both front bearings. thanks so much for the input. -- more information at http//www.talkaboutautos.com/faq.html .

tbone wrote hahahahahahahahahahaha you really are funny miles. what do you think that the reason for that is perhaps because there simply not enough demand for all of these things because people there just dont have the money for them. oh really now my sister in law travels to the usa every few months. stops in at walmart and buys small appliances clothes etc. then returns to mexico to sell at the local swap meet at prices 50-100% over cost. everything sells with ease. go to mexico tbone. your attempt to argue about a country you are clueless about is getting to the point of absurdity. again miles if the demand is so high then why dont some mexicans open up some stors and import this stuff. are they all idiots or is it that there is a small demand from a few rich and the gringos that are to lazy or to busy to travel to america to get this stuff i am thinking the latter and the small amount that she transports in her car hardly indicates a huge demand. the one that seems to know absolutely nothing is you. what you just said make no economic sense at all. if this were true then why doesnt someone import that stuff down there. you keep attempting to apply how things work in the usa to that of mexico which is a vastly different culture and economy. american companies cant easily open up in mexico for sales to mexicans. mexico is to an extent a 3rd world nation. that does not mean the people are mostly poor. its a concept that eludes you. lol and what exactly is your definition of a third world nation go and look it up. who said anything about american companies open up in mexica and thanks to nafta it is much easier now than it used to be. actually it was nafta and clinton that has mexicos economy doing as well as it is and prior to nafta mexico was in trouble a few times. -- if at first you dont succeed youre not cut out for skydiving .

i dont think i am driving it hardi dont notice any pinging per say but there is a ticking while it runsquiet but noticeable none the less.i am going to try and trade it in over the summer i think. is there a chance it has less than a 20 gal tank on it like maybe 15 or something that seems to be a bit on the low side. how are you driving it are you pushing it hard to accelerate is it pinging a lot -- if at first you dont succeed youre not cut out for skydiving what kind of mileage are you guys getting in the city with the 3.9 in a 2001 dakota i filled the tank and got 149 miles before it was ready to be fueled againunless the fuel light comes on when there are still 5 gallons left. with a 20 gal tank this is awfulabout 7 miles per galloni find that very hard to believe. anyone have any ideas .

snip so what if the roar isnt caused by wheel bearings on either side thats another $130 plus labor gone. do bearings even make roaring sounds so if the op doesnt have a clue what is making the noise and is just swapping parts until it goes way they might as well all be new. all that money he is saving by not hiring a professional wrench should cover the price of the parts. besides if he bought a front bearing assembly for a dodge 1500 at 136 bucks it is probably not a factory part last time i bought front bearings for a full sized truck they were much more. but that was for a buddies ford. none of my trucks have needed bearings yet. replace tires in pairs brakes in pairs bearings in pairs. or do we now just put new spark plugs in every other cylinder hey johnny maybe you ought to get someone to ride down the road with you and yall can hang your heads out both sides of the truck and see which one it is actually coming from. or you could put it on a lift and spin the tires. if it is a bad bearing you will either hear a faint grinding or feel the rough spot as you turn. sometimes a stethescope helps find noises when the vehicle is on the lift. michael .
