2003 Hemi Fuel Mileage
From : thats me
Q: ive seen lots of threads on this subject so i thought id put in my experience. vehicle 2003 dodge 1500 quad cab hemi 5 speed auto tow package w 3.92 rearend ratio 245/70-17 tires. i picked up my truck 13 june 03 i needed to be in humboldt ia on the 16th 2900 mile trip so decided this would be a perfect break in run from nc. told my dealer id either break it in or just break it. tmalss average mileage going up with the tail gate up was 16.5 coming back tailgate down was 17.6 running at speed limit to 5 above. added tonneau cover so tailgate could remain up. i hooked my 21ft aerolite tt 3400lbs loaded to it the 12th of this month and pulled it to kansas and back 3300 mile trip mileage on this trip averaged 11mpg running at speed limit to 5 above. around town mileage has been 14.6. my previous tow vehicle was a 1990 dodge d150 std cab 5.2l auto 4.10 rearend ratio. its averages were; hwy 19.6 town 17.2 towing 14.8 am i happy with the fuel mileage numbers of course i would like them to be better but i have a 35% increase in available hp at a 25% increase in fuel use i can live with that. the one thing id like to see different is fuel tank size the old tow vehicle had a 32 gal tank and this one only has a 26 gal tank the low fuel light comes on to early on the new one. i could run about 400 miles before stopping for fuel in the old one but can only make about 250 miles before the low fuel light comes on in the new truck. i think the wife would not agree with me on this point though. i am going to try a trip to knoxville tn next month and run it at no more than 60mph to see what that does for mpg. have a nice day. ldpoos@nopants.juno.com remove nopants to reply by direct e-mail; support the right to privacy and anti-spam projects. .
