2003 Dakota CD Player

From : smccorkl

Q: i have the standard cd player in my dakota. around 40000 miles the players has started making a clicking noise when inserting ejecting powering on and off when a cd is inserted. this clicking or grinding noise sometimes continues for about 20 seconds. any thoughts on what this might. i thought about getting it checked out but by the time i pay for just the diagnostics i might as well buy a new one. .

how easy is it to replace it looks like i have to remove the whole dashboard cover to get at the thing. .

oem cd players are available on ebay. i replaced the one in my old 96 for $187.00. i didnt care for the aftermarket units. its real easy pull the dash trim bezel. the radio is held in to the dash by two 10mm bolts. buy a dash it and a wire harness adaptor and thats it. dont just tape the wires from the new radio to the wire harness adaptor take the time to use crimp caps or something similar. how easy is it to replace it looks like i have to remove the whole dashboard cover to get at the thing. .

hi ed wrong link there its http//www.pro-fit-intl.com/ i bought one of the cellphone brackets for my 03 ram and people think it was a factory option. great outfit. --mike go to http//www.profit-intl.com. they sell vehicle specific dashboard mounts for electronic devices. you can download a set of instructions for your vehicle. it will tell you how to take the dash apart. it is not tough at all. i havent had my 02 ram apart. but the 96 was a breeze. though the face plate is shaped a bit differently the radio/cd players all mount nearly the same way ed is the dash easy to remove i assume you remove the two visible screws and pry the rest off seems like a lot to remove to get to the system. .

thanks mike they are both right. believe it or not. i used the lowboy mount for the face plate of my icom 706mkiig ham radio. the specific mount for my 2002 ram 1500 put it too far to the right for my liking. ed hi ed wrong link there its http//www.pro-fit-intl.com/ i bought one of the cellphone brackets for my 03 ram and people think it was a factory option. great outfit. --mike go to http//www.profit-intl.com. they sell vehicle specific dashboard mounts for electronic devices. you can download a set of instructions for your vehicle. it will tell you how to take the dash apart. it is not tough at all. i havent had my 02 ram apart. but the 96 was a breeze. though the face plate is shaped a bit differently the radio/cd players all mount nearly the same way ed is the dash easy to remove i assume you remove the two visible screws and pry the rest off seems like a lot to remove to get to the system. .
