Q: additional; went back to autozone and replaced the iac. no help. they were even nice enough to allow me to return it. ramman@dodgecity.cc writes lawrence tnloaswpraemnmcien5g@earthlink.net writes well 100% chance of trashing the old tb gasket so your suggestion to pick up one paid off. harder to get my ass up in there to reach everything than it was to r&r okay all squeaky clean now. had lots of carbon. tried the iac test ok. reassembled drove over to autozone to have them clear the code. darn thing coded again sitting in their parking lot idling. mil lamp didnt come on but the code came up again on their scanner within 1 minute of restarting the engine. trans in park idling w/ac on. shut the eng off cleared it again and restarted once more. idling it comes backwithin a minute. cleared it again. restarted the truck again and immediately kicked the idle up to 1500 rpm. sat there 2+ minutes at 1500 rpm wasting $2.59/gal gas all seemingly well. let it idle back down and it gave a p0307 almost immediately. whats next could the plug maybe be fouled again this is beginning to get a little tiring. any tips for r&r or is this a shop job real simple - its on the back of the throttle body. two torx screws and an electrical connector. while youre at it just remove the whole throttle body four bolts from the top once you take the air cleaner off strip off the iac the map sensor and the tps sensor all remove the same - just a couple of screws then give it a good thorough cleaning with some tb cleaner. when you put it back together leave the iac uninstalled. plug the electrical in and while holding it have someone turn on the ignition but dont start the truck - it will rev to redline! and watch the movement of the iac pintle. it should cycle all the way out then all the way in then settle to a position somewhere in the middle. this should all be smooth movements. if its not or if in doubt you can try cleaning it as well but a replacement isnt that much money either. before embarking on this pick up a new throttle body gasket - 50% chance youll trash the old one while removing the tb. .

im trying to get self prepared for a power steering pump replacement on a 1999 dodge grand caravan v6 3.0l. im reading that it is a p.i.t.a. job pain in the a$$. im armed with the hayes repair manual a little common sense basic tools and an instruction guide from this link http//www.cardone.com/english/club/products/steering/protech/installinstructions/93062720.asp ive also been scanning the groups and im surprised that there arent more posts on this considering the hole rusted through in 6 only years of use. i guess it was no match for the wi salt. i found a post that hits it dead on but it lacks information and the poster doesnt go into detail about installing. he mainly says how hard the pump was to get off. see it at this link history i discovered the leak for about 4 weeks ago. it leaves about a 12 spot of fluid every 10 hour sitting. out of desperation i tried one of those stop leak juices. in fact 3 full bottles. ive never used any type of stop leak remedy before because i feel they just dont work. well... as expected it didnt. last night i finally took a peek under the van and saw the bottom of the pump casing is bubbly with rust. i can actually watch droplets of power steering fluid form where the rust is the weakest. i took pictures of the pump and would be willing to post them upon request. i cant see paying $575 $212 + $350 labor + tax for a job that i can maybe do my own. it will cost me $100 for the part on the internet and im guessing a full saturday of sweat and aggravation. i just called the shop and the price of $350 for labor doesnt include replacing of the hoses. the tech said we dont replace the hoses unless theres something wrong with them. they can last the life of the car. questions can anyone please please provide any tips that will help how long average should it take to do a job like this or how long did it take you to do it any special tools for the pully what could reasonably be removed to make the job easier is it really worth replacing the hoses any replies would be appreciated. thanks tim .

on mon 29 aug 2005 074644 gmt nosey kfrei43@removethis.hotmail.com wrote what is the procedure for removing just the top piece you mean the piece thats cracked you cant - the entire instrument panel is molded as a single piece. youd have to remove the entire panel a fairly involved job - get a factory service manual before attempting and replace it. the top of the dash is called a top cover i know because i just paid $334.92 for it! thats just the part not the labor! i did the work myself i wouldnt recommend this to a novice! it took me about 7 hours. the dash cover screws are facing the windshield the only way to reach them is too removed the dash completely period! chilton book is ok but doesnt go in great detail just shows the basics. you will end up removing everything from front of the dash and droping the steering wheel column. hope this helps. wink has anyone tried this one its less than $120. my 99 dash is cracked in 3 different places. i want to fix it but i dont want to remove the whole dash out to do it. http//tinyurl.com/cc3p6 as another owner of a 99 ram with cracked dash id be interested in this if it glues on or something to stop that #*!&$! rattle of the cracked dash and maybe suspend the cracks from spreading more.. mac please remove splinters before emailing .

j wrote theres an interesting even hilarious article in the sept. 2005 issue of popular mechanics that shows these devices that claim to increase mileage in your auto are nothing more than junk. some of them even do damage to the vehicle. all of them either showed no improvement or even performance degredation and one set fire to the engine. the article is really great. i highly recommend everyone to go the bookstore or library and check it out. k$n air filter at the top of the list .

what happen to this dodge truck group i been gone a few months and i see none or dont see any of the old timers jump right in answering questions. used to be a guy could post a question and three or four of the old farts would jump in the old farts are being very careful while sitting on their heated seats for fear of an unintensional ignition problem... giving advice sometimes slightly disagreeing but always quick to help. now i see questions going unanswered. too bad this *was* a good group at one time. yeah i know dont let the door hit me in the ass. dont worry i wont. but for anyone else that would care to give me a civil answer i would appreciate it. thanks. what happen to the good ole boys most are still around here but dont post as much. myself i just get tired of somebody saying this isnt rocket science while they give a wrong answer and then argue about it for a couple of days. denny .

id sure look into a trans. temp cooler. its got to be less expensive than a new transmission. j. hi i installed a class 3 hitch on my 94 carevan le so i can take my boat to florida. this will be a one way trip. its supposed to be good up to 3500 pounds. one guy posted here recently that the transmissons in caravans arent all that great and if you tow with one dont use overdrive which mine has. that makes sense to me but then i thought if the engine is reving higher along with a heaverier load from pulling the trailer the engine oil would get hotter than normal. if im right about that should i install an auxillary engine oil cooler or am i just being paranoid can anybody recommend one thanks mike. .
