2001 dodge dakota pick up - mystery brakes
From : winky
Q: 2001 dodge dakota sport 27k miles original owner all oem parts. 4.7 litre front left brake pads grab rotor and wont let go. this happens intermittently. happens when i do not apply the brakes. gets real hot and lotsa smoke comin out of the fender well. do the rotors go tits up at 30k thought it might be warped rotor problems. is there any issues with the abs thought maybe its a problem with the onboard computer. dont wanna waste $$ on new parts if there are other issues that need to be taken care of first. btw if oem rotors go tits up after 30k ...... do i have to tear down the entire brake system and replace with aftermarket parts to get this to work right sooo any mopar heads gotta fix hit me back asap as this is now dangerous to drive. ram tough or sheep shit. you tell me. hey thanks in advance !! peace winky the clown .

my 2001 ram had a seize caliper. it was a bit of a run around with the dealer but they did replace it and everythings good now. 2001 dodge dakota sport 27k miles original owner all oem parts. 4.7 litre front left brake pads grab rotor and wont let go. this happens intermittently. happens when i do not apply the brakes. gets real hot and lotsa smoke comin out of the fender well. sounds like you got either a caliper that is sticking or possibly a brake hose that is starting to collapse on the inside. most likely it is the caliper. do the rotors go tits up at 30k thought it might be warped rotor problems. contrary to what some posters bitch about ive found the dakota rotors last as long as other models. it is more common than it used to be because the rotors just dont have as much metal in them as they used to. btw a warped rotor is not the cause of your problem. is there any issues with the abs thought maybe its a problem with the onboard computer. dont wanna waste $$ on new parts if there are other issues that need to be taken care of first. i really doubt if this is a abs problem either. btw if oem rotors go tits up after 30k ...... do i have to tear down the entire brake system and replace with aftermarket parts to get this to work right you can use oem or aftermarket whichever you like both work. the rotor just slides on over the lug studs just take the caliper and bracket off to get to the rotor sooo any mopar heads gotta fix hit me back asap as this is now dangerous to drive. ram tough or sheep shit. you tell me. ill to with the ram tough although there are a few guys in here that like sheep but wont admit it to us.... denny hey thanks in advance !! peace winky the clown .

sounds like you have a brake piston sticking.. on older models this would happen. the original is a plastic or composition material. napa may have metal pistons. 2001 dodge dakota sport 27k miles original owner all oem parts. 4.7 litre front left brake pads grab rotor and wont let go. this happens intermittently. happens when i do not apply the brakes. gets real hot and lotsa smoke comin out of the fender well. do the rotors go tits up at 30k thought it might be warped rotor problems. is there any issues with the abs thought maybe its a problem with the onboard computer. dont wanna waste $$ on new parts if there are other issues that need to be taken care of first. btw if oem rotors go tits up after 30k ...... do i have to tear down the entire brake system and replace with aftermarket parts to get this to work right sooo any mopar heads gotta fix hit me back asap as this is now dangerous to drive. ram tough or sheep shit. you tell me. hey thanks in advance !! peace winky the clown .
