2001 Ram airbag question

From : Annonymous

Q: does anyone here have any evidence that the drivers side airbag is or is not a hazard to a rearward-facing child seat in the center position in the truck ive looked through the iihs and nhsta websites and all of the issues ive found deal with the child seat in the passenger position and the passenger airbag. i havent found anything dealing with the center position which is odd because thats where the tether is located. if it *is* a possible hazard has the usdot approved dealers to install airbag switches for drivers side use or do i still need a note from my mommy i posted a similar query in rec.autos.tech titled hard evidence needed... for those interested. also if anyone knows of another forum that might be better for this question please let me know. thanks -phil crow .

i had an accident with my 1999. if i remember correctly the bag was about the width of the driver seat. of course i do not know what the air bag did to help to accident. my head still hit something as i had a big gash on my head. as far as installing a switch no problem. vehicles must have airbags that are sold in interstate commerce. the commerce is finished and now you can do what you want with your vehicle as long as it dont violate state safety laws. i dont know of any state that requires air bags. does anyone here have any evidence that the drivers side airbag is or is not a hazard to a rearward-facing child seat in the center position in the truck ive looked through the iihs and nhsta websites and all of the issues ive found deal with the child seat in the passenger position and the passenger airbag. i havent found anything dealing with the center position which is odd because thats where the tether is located. if it *is* a possible hazard has the usdot approved dealers to install airbag switches for drivers side use or do i still need a note from my mommy i posted a similar query in rec.autos.tech titled hard evidence needed... for those interested. also if anyone knows of another forum that might be better for this question please let me know. thanks -phil crow .
