2001 Ram 1500 Sport
From : matt helm
Q: little late isnt it ed i just this morning bought a 2001 ram 1500 v8 4wd and sport package. mileage was 54k. sticker was $10k. minus $2000 for my trade-in my on-its-last-breath 97 ford f150. i was expecting to have the f150 hauled off as it was knocking like a woodpecker. so it is going to cost me about $8000 - is that fair enough what kind of maintenance issues should i be expecting at its age and mileage the acceleration isnt quite what i expected - it almost feels like it is geared too low. tires too small anyone know what size tires came with it new i havent had time to check which v8 it came with. yes it has been one of those days. probably the 5.9l. -=matt=- .

to big al yes i read the article and if it were anymore vague it could be used as a soap-opera script. more hype about himself that about the carb and not enough about himself to determine if hes even a logical shadetree inventor. budd here is what i was asking about. again i have no idea if any of this is true but it is clearly not old fashion water injection. from the article according to mcburney the process is really quite simple. you vaporize the fuel through any of a number of methods then in the presence of heat generated from the exhaust and added water vapor run the fuel-water mixture across a catalyzing agent and a vast portion of the fuel molecules will break down into methanol and natural gas. the heat and catalyst and water drive the reaction. here is the complete article just in case http//www.freeenergy.com/directory/carburetors/mcburney/pressrelease031117.htm in my 60 years of screwing with this stuff i find most of these types of discoveries are pure bs. but someday.... al ps just toured the franklin car museum. we have not come very far .

the dye is in the heating oil. it glows under uv light and just a few gallons of it in your tank will make the whole tank glow coasty wrote can i use regular home heating oil in my diesel aside from the obvioul tax issues is there really any reason i cant get away with this $2.39 vs. $3.xx plus makes this pretty tempting. yes but if you get caught by the tax nazis you will be in deep do-do. also there is a dye in the fuel used for auto consumption that is how they tell it apart. if you decide to do so put a pre-filter with a water separator on the tank it will save you some head aches. -- ----------------- www.thesnoman.com .

hey all i am serously thinking of getting a power wagon. i went to the dealership today and test drove one. i loved it. is there anything i should be aware of for the 2006 model. the funny thing is the salesman kept asking me what i needed so much truck for. i told him i was going to use it to drive over hondas. lol. i am actually going to use it like it is ment to be driven. taking it to the mountains to go to the middle of nowhere to go camping off roading and tow my jeep yj. also it looks like it can handle 35in tires. will they fit without a lift kit or should i look at getting a lift kit also. thanks ben .

hp wrote nosey; do you actually have to point the remote at the truck also they have the antenna on the front d/s upper corner of the windshield. i have the the truck which is a quad cab with tinted rear windows parked facing away from me and slightly to the right of my sliding door. could that make a difference. would moving the antenna to the rear window possibly make that much difference i put the antenna on the windshield just above the rear-view mirror mounted horizontally. i have the responder 2-way system that works great at 300 yards. i dont have to point the remote. it transmits and recieves signals from anywhere inside my home. turn the truck around and see if it makes any difference. if it does relocating the antenna might help. what model do you have i may be able to find the install guide for you. -- ken .

there has been a great deal said about after market remote starters for vehicles. first many of the vehicles today come with some time theft deterrent system that is controlled by the pcm. many including in the dodge family use a chip in the key which if the wrong key is inserted the vehicle will not stay running. after market remote starting systems are junk and could really screw up an auto with a security system. not only can after market systems be bad there is alot of cutting and pasting of wires to install them creating a rats nest of wire to trouble shoot. if you do not have a oem security system you are good to go and it is just as easy to open the door and start it with a key simple stupid is always the best just me no slamming intended. -- coasty remove the spooge to reply i had a local speed shop install an electric starter in my 04 1500 hemi qc. the make was dei. a real piece of crap . very little range. i was thinking about ripping it out and having the mopar unit installed. anybody know whether or not the mopar might simply be a plug in type unit that i could do or does it half to be done by a dealer i have the remote door locks already. i par my truck about 200ft from my apartment and it doesnt start. .

what about the pcm isnt the one for an automatic different form the one used in the manual -- coasty remove the spooge to reply i expected a little more balls from you people. good lord! sell it and get what you want. huge project not likely. every part needed is available in some form or another. no fabrication necessary. with a donor truck available i could have it done in a day. it is a huge project and while an experienced mechanic might be able to do it in a day most cannot. also every part is made and available somewhere but.. .where donor truck well gee if he had a friggin 5spd truck hed be driving it not swapping its trans into another truck. i hate to say it but ill agree with tbone this project verges on the insane given that there are trucks already built with 5spds. thanks for the info on the 1500 ram. it sounds like dodge never offered anything smaller than the nv4500 with the 360. i might have to brave the nv3500 or look into something from another manufacturer which will greatly increase the complexity of the project. since the nv3500 was not rated at a torque capacity that would handle the 360 it was never bolted to a 360 from the factory. however and this is the subject of much debate its likely that a 360 flywheel for the nv4500 will handle the nv3500. since the 360 and 318 share castings the nv3500 can be bolted to the 360. -- max give a man a match and he is warm for a short while. light him on fire and he is warm for the rest of his life. i expected a little more balls from you people. good lord! sell it and get what you want. huge project not likely. every part needed is available in some form or another. no fabrication necessary. with a donor truck available i could have it done in a day. thanks for the info on the 1500 ram. it sounds like dodge never offered anything smaller than the nv4500 with the 360. i might have to brave the nv3500 or look into something from another manufacturer which will greatly increase the complexity of the project. -rev .

howdy. i have a 2002 dakota qc 5.9l v8 4x4 auto and i hate automatic transmissions. id really like to replace the auto with a 5-speed manual. a transfer case with a mechanical floor shifter would be nice too. the level of this project is huge. you would be better off selling the truck and buying one the way you want it. problem the nv3500 isnt rated to handle the torque. i dont off road or tow extensively. will the transmission handle my heavy right foot 2. find a 5-speed and transfer case combo from a 1500/2500 ram with a 5.9l. what did they use problem im afraid the nv4500 might have been the only option and it wont fit under the floor pan. there was no 5 speed offered with the 1500 series and the 5.9. the 2500 used the nv4500. 3. find a 6-speed. problem im too poor and ive already sold my soul to the devil. no bell housing available to fit the 5.9 and if you think that the nv4500 is to big.... any ideas advice warnings etc thanks! the only real advice is to sell what you have and buy what you want. while it is not impossible to do this the time and money you will spend attempting it will more than kill any savings over selling and buying a different truck. -- if at first you dont succeed youre not cut out for skydiving .

john actually thats probably not a bad point especially when i can lock it up in the box. a bit of weight work but what the heck how many thieves carry around their own battery still the would-be thief could get annoyed decide hes not going to be beaten and go to a neigbouring car and steal its battery to shove in my van - now that would be a thief doing it in style! cheers.....tim .

john has some very good advice matt. ed tires too small would increase your acceleration. oem tires are 245/75-16. consider a tune up including spark plugs wires air filter fuel filter and a fuel additive like techron. then check out the acceleration again. disconnecting and reconnecting the battery to clear the computer may help too. 54k might also mean its time to change the transmission differentials and transfer case oils check the brake pads before they eat the rotors for lunch they might be original check the belt and hoses for cracks coolant flush and replacement top off the brake and power steering fluids. check the spare for air john .
