2001 Dodge RAM 2500 Quad CAB 2500 GAS BILL?
From : ike
Q: hello i was just wondering if anyone has any ideas about how i can reduce my gas bill by improving my gas milage. i use about 50.00 a week at 2.04 per gallon and i am not sure if there is something wrong with my truck or if i need to do something to it with aftermarket parts. is anyone having the same problem i have the big v8 and it is a 4x4 so i expect it to be a little thirsty but am not sure if it should be so thirsty. i would estimate that i get about 8 miles a gallon. please advise. thank you in advance. .

ike we own a 02 2500 dodge ram short bed diesel 6 speed 4x4 with 35000 miles. i get 18-19 mpg in town and 20 -21 on the highway driving at or just above speed limits. speed does hurt mileage no real surprise with all the wind resistance. also there is a drop in mileage during the winter months. john hello i was just wondering if anyone has any ideas about how i can reduce my gas bill by improving my gas milage. i use about 50.00 a week at 2.04 per gallon and i am not sure if there is something wrong with my truck or if i need to do something to it with aftermarket parts. is anyone having the same problem i have the big v8 and it is a 4x4 so i expect it to be a little thirsty but am not sure if it should be so thirsty. i would estimate that i get about 8 miles a gallon. please advise. thank you in advance. .

well you could replace the differential to slow down the engine a tad bit. just remember that your towing will be effected depending on how much you tow and how much lower the ratio is. i believe that with 3.55 gears you can see about 4-5 mpg better economy but it will cost you roughly $700 in parts i checked into this also and some labor unless you can do the swap yourself. -- ------------------------------------------------------------ laszlo almasi carolina watercraft works inc. raleigh nc 27604 919-212-2555 loballeng@mindspring.com we all have our ghosts...take care of yours my plate is full hello i was just wondering if anyone has any ideas about how i can reduce my gas bill by improving my gas milage. i use about 50.00 a week at 2.04 per gallon and i am not sure if there is something wrong with my truck or if i need to do something to it with aftermarket parts. is anyone having the same problem i have the big v8 and it is a 4x4 so i expect it to be a little thirsty but am not sure if it should be so thirsty. i would estimate that i get about 8 miles a gallon. please advise. thank you in advance. .

actually he basically told us he has a 4x4 2500 ram. those that know rams will know he has the 360 and 4.10 rearend. thats the setup they put in the ram. i happen to know since i also have the same exact truck. i also know because i researched my options as he is now. the feedback i got from people that have actually done the rearend swap was 4-5 mpg whether it was in the dakota r/t or the ram 2500. btw the r/t uses the 4.10 as well. -- ------------------------------------------------------------ laszlo almasi carolina watercraft works inc. raleigh nc 27604 919-212-2555 loballeng@mindspring.com we all have our ghosts...take care of yours my plate is full carolina watercraft works inc. wrote well you could replace the differential to slow down the engine a tad bit. just remember that your towing will be effected depending on how much you tow and how much lower the ratio is. i believe that with 3.55 gears you can see about 4-5 mpg better economy but it will cost you roughly $700 in parts i checked into this also and some labor unless you can do the swap yourself. without knowing what gears he presently has i dont see how you would know what he might gain. besides there isnt any real answer for him with the limited information he posted. what are the driving conditions city freeway what are the speeds he normally drives what kind of tires in use what does he call a big v8 and so on. best answer for what information he gave is simply slow down. jerry .

those that know rams know that about 90% of them have the 3.55 rear gear. i changed from that to the 3.92 gear and my in town mileage picked up about a mile per gallon and highway dropped a couple. denny carolina watercraft works inc. loballeng@mindspring.com wrote in actually he basically told us he has a 4x4 2500 ram. those that know rams will know he has the 360 and 4.10 rearend. thats the setup they put in the ram. i happen to know since i also have the same exact truck. i also know because i researched my options as he is now. the feedback i got from people that have actually done the rearend swap was 4-5 mpg whether it was in the dakota r/t or the ram 2500. btw the r/t uses the 4.10 as well. -- ------------------------------------------------------------ laszlo almasi carolina watercraft works inc. raleigh nc 27604 919-212-2555 loballeng@mindspring.com we all have our ghosts...take care of yours my plate is full carolina watercraft works inc. wrote well you could replace the differential to slow down the engine a tad bit. just remember that your towing will be effected depending on how much you tow and how much lower the ratio is. i believe that with 3.55 gears you can see about 4-5 mpg better economy but it will cost you roughly $700 in parts i checked into this also and some labor unless you can do the swap yourself. without knowing what gears he presently has i dont see how you would know what he might gain. besides there isnt any real answer for him with the limited information he posted. what are the driving conditions city freeway what are the speeds he normally drives what kind of tires in use what does he call a big v8 and so on. best answer for what information he gave is simply slow down. jerry .

hhhmm....i find it very easy to believe that in 2001 they may have only offered the 4.10 over the 3.55 for the 2500. you do have a 2500 4x4 right the oems are always experimenting with different setups. in fact they were even testing the 6 speed manual tranny to be an option for the 2001 2500 when i ordered mine. i also wanted to have 3.55 gearing but the 3.55 gears were not an option for the year/model we are discussing. maybe they were in 1999. but then again im sure the specs are different between those 2 years. so...which of us has the apple ^ -- ------------------------------------------------------------ laszlo almasi carolina watercraft works inc. raleigh nc 27604 919-212-2555 loballeng@mindspring.com we all have our ghosts...take care of yours my plate is full carolina watercraft works inc. wrote what year is your ram -- 1999..... .
