Q: .. .. .. .. hemi i gotta ask bud. did you have any of this trouble before messing with the starter to get the dust cover off ive followed the post to date....and i havent seen anything stating that you were haveing the trouble prior to the convertor-dust cover deal. and.....the impression is that the motor is spinning over but not starting. at least thats what im pulling from the conversation along with some other bits. some questions 4-u.... does thing start fine every time when the engine is cold but never when hot is it running good when it does start even when the engine is hot no miss spits sputters is the motor turning over but not starting have you pulled a plug wire and checked for spark have you used gas down the intake trying to start it have you rechecked all the conections at the starter did it short or arc while you were taking it off and putting it on. did you change the ballast resister what parts have you changed keep the dribble to a minimum but give me some solid detail on the questions as far as the results of what youve tried. i have read the thread to date....im just trying to get you to cut through the dribble and give a good line by line diagnose and repair post .....to eliminate any confusion. this thing starts fine when cold runs good runs good while its hot when shut down after its hot ....it will not fire up but the motor turns over. ...................................... ifs......... pouring fuel down the intake does not work you have spark at the plugs and the plugs are good it runs good when it starts cold and it continues to run good even when hot untill its shut down then.....its not a compression issue its electrical!!!!!!!! and im thunkn its got something to do with taking that starter off.... pickup ignition module ballast resister a link.... chrysler electronic ignition addresshttp//www.fourforty.com/techstuff/ignition.html changed114 pm on saturday august 22 1998 jest trying to help marshmonster =================== ===================. 84 ramcharger ignition strange one from hemipower@aol.com hemipower these units are usually so rock solid that this one has me stumped. back ground this is a plow truck that sat all summer i fired it up to start getting it ready for winter. there was a horrible noise that i found to be the trans dust guard being hit by a converter bolt. i removed teh guard and went to restart the truck with no go. what the heck switched out the control module and ballast resistor. checked the ohms on the pick up and all seemed fine. still no start. then for some reason it finally fired and ran and i restarted it a few more times. ok. remove starter again to replace the now straightened dust cover and again no start. one strange thing i noticed is that after cranking with no start if i turn the key off fast i get a bump from the engine and a puff of smoke from the carb as if i had ign. this usually is a sign of a ballast resistor but no good. any suggestions .

i need to replace the front pads and turn the rotors on my 2001 dakota. anything special i should be aware of did mine on the 99 dak. nothing really out of the ordinary. hardest part was getting the rotor off of the hub. just soak in lots of wd-40 and then whack it good! .

there is no need to replace the rotors if they are still ok. check to make sure that after resurfacing they are still above the minimum thickness spec. no point in spending money needlessly unless you got lots of it. chryco service manager member sae buy new rotors easiest brakejob ive ever donetook less than an hour. i have a 00qcon 28 oct 2003 065031 -0800 phredmund@yahoo.com phredmund wrote i need to replace the front pads and turn the rotors on my 2001 dakota. anything special i should be aware of .

my 2000 quad was pretty easy but you should note there are lots of dakotas with reported rotor warp problems. search the ng to see. mine was one! 68k miles and i had them turned and the warp returned after 7k miles. if you need rotors make sure to spend a few bucks more to get the performance drilled surface style so they dont warp as easy. i need to replace the front pads and turn the rotors on my 2001 dakota. anything special i should be aware of .

make sure the posts for the caliper are cleaned and lubricated liberally with something that doesnt gunk up and/or harden in cold temps. if the caliper cant move freely on these posts then your pads will wear unevenly along with the rotor. this can create excessive heat causing the rotors to warp. also torque the lug bolts evenly to spec this can cause warped rotors as well. just have your rotors measured before they get trimmed .. dont waste your money if they dont meet specs after turning. i need to replace the front pads and turn the rotors on my 2001 dakota. anything special i should be aware of .

phredmund its an easy job that you can do your self in a few hours a lot of auto part stores and some shops will turn the rotors for a couple of bucks. if your looking for some other opinions check out http//www.dodgedakotas.com/ and do a search for brakes there is a lot of good info. i need to replace the front pads and turn the rotors on my 2001 dakota. anything special i should be aware of .

wou have to watch service people very closely anytime they take your tires off. any inballance on actual troque values on the lugnuts will cause the rotors to warp. most service people dealer or third party just drill the lugnuts on with the air wrench and double check with a torque wrench to make sure they meet or exceed manufacturers specs. best bet is to get your own torque wrench back off the lug nuts a bit and retorque them properly yourself when you get home. on tue 28 oct 2003 191928 -0600 mike simmons mikesim@fidnet.com wrote there is no need to replace the rotors if they are still ok. check to make sure that after resurfacing they are still above the minimum thickness spec. no point in spending money needlessly unless you got lots of it. chryco service manager member sae buy new rotors easiest brakejob ive ever donetook less than an hour. i have a 00qcon 28 oct 2003 065031 -0800 phredmund@yahoo.com phredmund wrote i need to replace the front pads and turn the rotors on my 2001 dakota. anything special i should be aware of .
