one more time... the vehicle is a 99 ram 2500 24v cummins td. ive had this truck for 3 weeks. right after i bought it i went to a trusted local shop for oil change and have the fluids checked. as is usual wuth most good lube jobs filters get replaced when needed. concerning the air filter i was advised of a reusable air filter so i went with it. the concept seemed valid to me filters just as good better air flow reusable. the tree hugger in my liked the idea of not tossing something else in the trash every time i got serviced. the extra price seemed justified. i can hear the groans in the crowd already... screams actually.... yup -- it turned out to be a k&n filter. i only found this out when after witnessing the massive flame wars over this product i checked under the hood myself. and there it was. gota suck to be you... thats a sarcastic pun..lol yesterday after grilling a mechanic at a dodge dealership about other things he mentioned to avoid the k&n filters. claimed his turbo sucked it white -- meaning all that pink oil on the filter got blown out and gummed up his turbo. this idea horrified me. would me too particularly unless hes got a banks under there its all but impossible... so i queried dodge using their online tech support form asking if they had a formal position on k&n air filters. they do you just wont find out till the turbo go boom. their response was daimlerchrysler does not have a position regarding the use of aftermarket parts. we are unable to make any recommendations regarding the use of non-factory parts or accessories. damn. translated we cant tell you what to use thats up to you. we put the recommended filter in the truck from factory and if that pos k-n filter was worth a fuck we would have used it. if the turbo fails under warranty and we find that shit in your truck we can and will tell you to go get laid. if you dont believe that ask anyone thats had a turbo fail under warranty with one and what kinda shit they had to get it replaced under warranty after the district rep for dc killed the warranty. i cant seem to locate *any* formal evaluations online at least concerning the effectiveness and/or dangers of the k&n filter. i realize how touchy a subject this is. i do *not* want a holy war. i just want to avoid damage to my truck. i dont care about the possibly wasted cost of the k&n filter the gains/loss in mpg/hp or my pride. i want whats best for the truck. thats it. to attempt to keep things civil i have 3 simple questions for all of you 1. is there any merrit to claim that the oil in the k&n can mess up a turbo no/yes. depends. its not the oil you should worry about..its that one particle thats gonna find its way past it larger than the factory filter will allow that hits the vanes when its at about 150000 rpm 2. in your opinion should i ditch the k&n yup. 3. if yes to #2 is there a preferred brand of normal air filter mopar. thanks. .

anyone try a set of 20 wheels on their truck yet thoughts i have the factory 20s on my 2002 2wd short bed short cab. no scratches or dings on them yet 55k miles but you really have to be careful when crossing curbs and the like - you cant use the sidewall to climb up onto objects like you can with the 16s. i think it corners better than the one i had with normal wheels but its definitely a street tire and takes a lot more pounding if youre driving on bad roads. you do pay a lot more attention to potholes after a while. -- zamboni .

im running 16 wheels with 10 ply rated tires 265/75-r16 lt have bent 3 rims on the truck since new in 1995. 1 from sliding into a curb on ice the other two from rocks and wash-outs. plan to go to the 285 tires when these wear out for more side wall. gary carter anyone try a set of 20 wheels on their truck yet thoughts i have the factory 20s on my 2002 2wd short bed short cab. no scratches or dings on them yet 55k miles but you really have to be careful when crossing curbs and the like - you cant use the sidewall to climb up onto objects like you can with the 16s. i think it corners better than the one i had with normal wheels but its definitely a street tire and takes a lot more pounding if youre driving on bad roads. you do pay a lot more attention to potholes after a while. -- zamboni .

chuck thomerson wrote i have a 2004 dodge 1500 quad cab 4x4 w/ 20 rims and love it. what particularly do you want to know i would think the low profile sidewalls of the 20 tires would make for lousy handling and ride. especially offroad. easy to ding up the rims offroad too. seems to me theyre more for the sports car look. are they expensive to replace as compared to a 16 .

not good in snow or on slippery surfaces. replacement cost for wheels are $770.00 each if you get them from dc or $375.00 or so from dodges accessory catalog. anyone try a set of 20 wheels on their truck yet thoughts .
