20" Wheel "shimmy" Problem

From : jeff mayner

Q: those that have the problem with their 20 wheel ram 1500s. make sure you take the truck in before you get to 12k miles unless you bought an extended service contract. you will only be covered as far as the calipers. rotors and pads are not covered beyond 12k. the service person i spoke to today didnt even know about the tsb out on the problem. i went round and round for 20 minutes. i had taken the truck in for its reg. service and spoke to him about the shimmy. he played dumb until i mentioned the tsb and my knowledge of the issue. his tone changed immediately. after giving me some song and dance about the truck being beyond the 12k and thus not covered he said hes research and call me as soon as he found out. lol... he called me about 2 hours later and admitted to the tsb and informed me that the calipers were covered but not the rotors or pads. i was ready to admit to being partially at fault as i had put off taking the damn thing in when my wife reported the problem to me she usually drives the beast. anyway the service person said hed do his best to get me a discount on the rotor work and pads. ill find out what that discount is in the morning when i pick the truck up. thanks to the group for pointing this problem out to me in the first place. if i had been proactive at the time the service would have been entirely free. live and learn. jeff -- ------------------------------------------------- listen we are here on earth to fart around. dont let anybody tell you any different. -kurt vonnegut jr. ------------------------------------------------------------ .

i had mine in twice for this problem. the first time they resurfaced the rotors. the next time 11990 miles they replaced them. they told me that they will fix it up until 12k miles. those that have the problem with their 20 wheel ram 1500s. make sure you take the truck in before you get to 12k miles unless you bought an extended service contract. you will only be covered as far as the calipers. rotors and pads are not covered beyond 12k. the service person i spoke to today didnt even know about the tsb out on the problem. i went round and round for 20 minutes. i had taken the truck in for its reg. service and spoke to him about the shimmy. he played dumb until i mentioned the tsb and my knowledge of the issue. his tone changed immediately. after giving me some song and dance about the truck being beyond the 12k and thus not covered he said hes research and call me as soon as he found out. lol... he called me about 2 hours later and admitted to the tsb and informed me that the calipers were covered but not the rotors or pads. i was ready to admit to being partially at fault as i had put off taking the damn thing in when my wife reported the problem to me she usually drives the beast. anyway the service person said hed do his best to get me a discount on the rotor work and pads. ill find out what that discount is in the morning when i pick the truck up. thanks to the group for pointing this problem out to me in the first place. if i had been proactive at the time the service would have been entirely free. live and learn. jeff .
