1999 durango rear noise!!

Q: check the vacuum detector switch. on the 96 it is located on the inner fender near the master cylinder. this switch lets you know if the brake boost vacuum is low. sometimes those switches get clogged and read low vacuum. this will light the abs and the brake light. jj hattmakr wrote the gonz bigdog99@futura.net writes hello and happiness to all. i have a 1999 ram2500 5 speed and the abs light and brake indicator light came on. since then the speedometer only fuctions after the vehicle reaches 30 mph. everything else works fine including the cruise control. thanks and happiness to all. mike mike i cant tell if you have a question or a problem with your 99. if you need a solution to the abs/brake light situation you describe try replacing the wheel speed sensor located on top of the rear end. aw .

i have a 1999 durango 5.9 slt. it started making a humming/whining noise from the rear of the vehicle =====snip========== a few people in the dakota r/t group had this trouble. im sure dakota 5.9 and durango 5.9 use the same diff. what they did to fix was change the diff oil. choose a good quality synthetic oil and anti-slip additive if your diff is a posi. .

thanks for all of the help i recd some great tips. i do need clarification on the following according to my manual for my 2003 ram im suppose to use the b 3750 mile oil change interval service if one or more of the following apply day or night temps are below 32 f stop and go driving extensive idling drive in dusty conditions short trips less than 10 miles trailer towing or more than 50% of your driving is at sustained high speeds during hot weather. it says that most people will fall under this b service. this is for the so engine 250 hp not the 235 hp california emissions version. iron mike but just maybe there is a diesel owner that does not have a 2003 and has a nagging question about oil filter considerations and the heading of this thread cummins oil filter question not year specific might just peak his interest. makes sense... i just didnt want the o.p. taking the part numbers from that tsb and using them on his truck. .

some trucks i work on i.e.ford e-350 have a seperate fuse for the rear brake/turn signals that blow when a trailer harness is badshorted. in that veh the seperate fuse is in the eng. comprtmt fuse block. ive also had to replace many 2-filament bulbs where the tips were just worn down but the filaments were otherwise good. hope this helpsand is cheap to check! my brake lights and turn signals arent working on my 88 dakota. its a two filament bulb. the dimmer filamnet comes on with the head lights but the brighter filament wont work. all fuses seem to be ok. i heard about checking the brake switch around the pedal. how should i go about doing that would that problem also cause the turn signals to not work thanks .

nosey wrote a common practical joke is to attach plastic zip-ties on someones drive shaft. as the vehicle moves the drive shaft rotates and the zip-ties slap the underside of the vehicle making a noise. i love that! i know just who to do that to. -- ..bob 97 h-d fxdwg - turbocharged!! 01 dakota quad sport 5.9/auto/4x4 83 gmc jimmy beater 66 427sc cobra replica - project 66 mustang coupe - daily driver -----= posted via feeds.com uncensored usenet =----- http//www.feeds.com - the #1 group service in the world! -----== over 100000 groups - 19 different servers! =----- .

john before you throw yourself to the mercy of the internet diagnosticians who just know whats wrong with your durango i would have a reputable shop take a look at it for you. it could be something as simple as tire cupping or could be more serious but no one can diagnose it over the net. i might try rotating the tires from front to rear and see if the noise relocates itself if it does then its probably tires if not then its likely something else diff bearings axle bearings etc. hope this helps! chryco service manager member sae hello all i have a 1999 durango 5.9 slt. it started making a humming/whining noise from the rear of the vehicle this week. it almost sounds like i have oversided tires on it. could this be the rear diff giving way or a problem with the tires. does not handle any different just makes a noise. thanks in advance john .
