also how many bumps would you think it would take to fill the filter up. when i pulled it out it was completely empty. the filter canister was empty of fuel when you removed the filter that confirms it then you definately have either something frozen up between the lift pump and the tank or the lift pump is toast and not pulling fuel. from underneath theres a quick-disconnect fitting about 12 away from the fuel filter. heres a picture of the lift pump removed from the canister http//home.earthlink.net/tlawrence51/stockliftpump.jpg if you disconnect the fuel line at the connector you can hook a manual vacuum pump to the fuel line and see if you can suck fuel out of it. if you can then your fuel pump is either frozen up or just plain shot. you can also connect another fuel line to the fuel pump connector and stick that line in your jug of off-road diesel then try priming the fuel filter canister and even seeing if the engine will fire. it may even be gelled up at the pickup tube in the tank. if thats the case if you have a supply of warm off-road diesel id say screw the regs - dump it in the tank get it sloshed around jump up and down on the tailgate and see if that can un-freeze it enough to let the lift pump draw fuel. if you get it running you can always take it into a shop somewhere and drain out the offending red stuff. first priority has to be to get the truck running again. of course the best solution is to try and get the vehicle into a heated shop and let everything thaw out. however if that were possible im sure you would have done that by now. getting a bad load of fuel sucks... getting a bad load of fuel in sub-zero temps sucks at least double. .

how to start your day with a positive attitude 1. create a new folder on your computer. 2. name it george w. bush. 3. send it to the trash. 4. empty the trash. 5. your computer will ask you do you really want to delete george w. bush 6. calmly answer yes and press the mouse button firmly... lol... jeff -- --- every time i hear the that old feeling comes back on; were waist deep in the big muddy and the big fool says to push on. - pete seeger 1967 --- .

its the fan clutch. the only way to tell is to replace it. jam jr wrote my 2001 ram 2500 also does that in cold weather. i had it into the shop but they couldnt duplicate it or figure out what it was. a cold belt would be my guess as well. jr you are probably right. i have heard belts squeal before but this sound was i thought different. we will see as they say. thanks for the input. d. haas dave i live up here in cary and drive an 03 1500 and i didnt notice any wierd noises when starting but i grew up in new england and on cold winter mornings you could here squealing coming from all over the neigborhood as everyone ran out in the their pajamas and boots to get their cars warmed up. the good is it will be near 70 tomorrow so you will have an opportunity to make sure it was just a southern belt that wasnt used to yankee weather! dan benedix howling motor sports www.howlingmotorsports.com an independant amsoil dealer view our new online quote tool! its fast easy and actually kind of fun i have a 2004 dakota 4x4 with a v8 engine and automatic trans. the other morning when the temp. was 18 f this is the first time it has been that cold this year in fayetteville nc it made the weirdest noise when revving the engine. it was a high pitched squeak or like finger nails on a black board and fairly loud. at first i though it was the radio but it came from under the hood. a good title for a horror movie after the car warmed up the sound disappeared. it had never done this before. seems to be a cold weather phenomena. anybody have a similar experience or idea what is going on its just plain weird. dave -----------== posted via feed.com - uncensored usenet ==---------- http//www.feed.com the #1 group service in the world! -----= over 100000 groups - unlimited fast downloads - 19 servers =----- .

brian wrote if i was ford i would be. i personally drive an 02 ram 2500 ctd. but at my job they have a fleet of fords and we have one 6.0 navistar pos. if my memory serves me correctly it has had 4-6 recalls 3 sets of new injectors 2 major engine failures uncluding throwing a rod and head gasket both at different times and the wonderfull torqueshift 5-speed auto redused itself to metal shavings. now thats what i call quality! reminds me of the old chevy 350 gas converted to diesel engines. .

its called loctite 567 aka pipe dope or pst. and it does not have any locking properties only high heat sealing. loctite 545 is for npt threads in a hydraulic application. on wed 22 dec 2004 165931 gmt bumtracks sitting@corner.pub wrote if threads are clean white loctite thread sealant - theres two both will work dandy in any automotive threads. one is extra high heat for cyl head fittings or exhaust bolts but other is better for later on taking stuff apart if not super hot location. and not the one with teflon doesnt actually fully lock it. thanks exactly what i was looking for. i i am installing a bunch of 1/8 npt fittings into an engine 26 year old onan dje generator. i would like to make sure that no matter what the engine oil sealed off by the fittings does not spill. should i use teflon tape which is a hassle or is there some nice compound that i can put on threads thanks i -- .

the thermostat was also recently replaced at the dealership due to a coolant leak which was corected. the problem with excessive gas was happening before the thermostat was replaced and continues since it was replaced. the scan that was carried out did not include me driving the truck. now that winter weather is here i think youd know if your t-stat wasnt closing because itd take a really long time for the heater to start putting out some warmth. mikesim@yhti.net writes two things to check are the thermostat and the coolant temp sensor. if the t-stat is not closing the engine is running cold causing the pcm to richen the fuel mixture. if the cts is flaky it could be giving a false reading to the pcm indicating a cold engine thus again causing a rich fuel mixture. have your shop check these two things. mike no to the overdrive and fuel leak. i had the dealership check it out and there baffled. they think it could be the o2 sensor even though its not showing any codes. i was encouraged to take it back to a muffler shop that had done some work a year and a half ago including the removal/bypass of the catalytic converter. only problem is that this problem has only been occuring for a short time. turfinator wrote i have a 1999 ram with a 318 auto and 180 000 kms. recently the truck started using tons of fuel. its maintenance has been kept up and i am the original owner. recently took to dodge dealer and was checked on their computer. it showed their was no codes. the 02 sensor comes up as being fine. the truck shows no changes in performance just fuel economy. the truck is burning aprox 1/4 tank per 50 miles. any ideas fuel leak if the t-stat is stuck it will set a code same for the o2 sensor. did the dealer really scan it on mine the o2 sensor was good at 30 mph but would fall out at an idle. the computer would go to full rich. i had to drive it with the scanner connected to prove it. al .

hope he wasnt asking about an oil burner yeah... hope so. course if he was and he winds up dumping a bottle of techron into his diesel fuel well then shame on him for not at least hinting about what kind of vehicle he was asking about in the first place i was under the impression mistakenly that techron could be used in any diesel engine to help cleanup injectors. after a search of chevrons site i came up with http//tinyurl.com/42bsk which states under the second q&a techron concentrate can be used with diesel fuel in light duty indirect injected diesel engines such as mercedes benz and peugeot. ive never used it in a diesel and my 03 ho doesnt meet that qualification. merry christmas to all. -- fmb only one b in fmb .
