transmission suddenly started to make whining or howling noise. its a 97 dakota 4x4 about 90k miles automatic and the noise changes pitch in sync with the speed of the truck. meaning a very light noise when at a stop while in drive and once i take off and pick up speed the noise increases bases on the speed i am traveling with the pitch getting high the higher the speed. i brake to come to a stop and the noise whines down in sync with the speed of the truck slowing down. the noise is very noticeable and loud. the faster i go the higher the pitch. transmission oil and filters have been changes as recommended and last done about 5000 miles ago. the oil level is good of course and smells normal no burnt smells or anything like that and has good color. the transmission is still very strong pulls hard still just as powerful as new even while towing. no problem with its performance at all other then the noise that just recently started when in drive. the noise has not gotten any worse in time so far and sounds and performs the same when cold or hot. when the transmission is shifted to neutral the noise goes away totally so its only while it is in gear both forward and reverse you hear it. i can be traveling down the road at certain speed and rpm and while maintaining my foot on the pedal not change the rpm or speed shift it to neutral for however long a time and noise disappears. put it back in drive 2nd or 1st the noise comes back. i have worked with hydraulic before and the sound is similar to a hydraulic pump whine or even like a power steering pump low on oil or something for the record its not the power steering pump i have checked this out. it is not the engine tires or power steering and this is based on the test with the noise going away when shifting to neutral while maintaining an rpm and speed on the same road surface. any ideas please post. thanks for looking. .

on sat 15 jan 2005 064930 -0500 maxpower damnnickname@yahoo.com wrote at idle there is a small gap between the throttle blade and the inside of the throttle body to allow air into the engine to keep running. sometimes this gap gets alot of deposits on it so that when you stop and the blade closes the engine dosnet get any air to keep it running so the engine stalls just like a fire take away the air it dies the automatic idle speed motor compensates for that but sometimes just isnt fast enough to allow air in. so by taking the air cleaner off engine not running get a toothbrush and some type of gumcutter/throttle body cleaner open the throttle by hand and clean out the inside of the bore and the blade at the point where the blade rests at idle. dont drop the tooth brush into the intake manifold thanks! i will file you answer for my reference and buy some carb cleaner. i on fri 14 jan 2005 193213 -0500 maxpower damnnickname@yahoo.com wrote it could be something easy as a dirty throtte body try cleaning it out. the blade and the inside bore glenn can you explain it a little bit more thank you very much. i glenn beasley chrysler tech 1999 dodge ram about 55000 miles 5.9l engine. today was a cold morning about 5f. i drove to the train station and was parking my pickup. engine was warm by this time. i backed out of the parking spot a bit and then put my truck in forward at which point the engine stopped. i was able to turn the key off and restart it instantly so no big trouble. i would like to know what may cause this behavior. thanks i -- .

oh lashing out again bfg its the only way to survive in this group... g the pats have kept the field uncovered this past week through some snow and a lot of rain. it was 60 degrees this morning 30 now. will be about 25 at game time with 15mph wind and a chance of flurries. roy talk about cheating....... i read an article on this on espn yesterday. something about the nfl requires the field to be covered for 36 hrs before a game if there is precipitation but it doesnt say anything about the week before. so the groundskeepers let the field get good and saturated then freeze to a solid chunk of ice to slow down the colt receivers. did i say anything about cheating vbfg go colts!!! no precipitation since about 9pm last night. 24 degrees out now im about 10 miles from the stadium. you know ole sissy seats wont be at that game the stadium doesnt have electric benches..... gotta tell ya i froze my ass off during many a game in the old stadium. this new one although bigger is no warmer. denny . 222 296311 jo6dns5ybe6uk3tcrvn-qq@comcast.com re-post it never went thru at idle there is a small gap between the throttle blade and the inside of the throttle body to allow air into the engine to keep running. sometimes this gap gets alot of deposits on it so that when you stop and the blade closes the engine dosnet get any air to keep it running so the engine stalls just like a fire take away the air it dies the automatic idle speed motor compensates for that but sometimes just isnt fast enough to allow air in. so by taking the air cleaner off engine not running get a toothbrush and some type of gumcutter/throttle body cleaner open the throttle by hand and clean out the inside of the bore and the blade at the point where the blade rests at idle. dont drop the tooth brush into the intake manifold on fri 14 jan 2005 193213 -0500 maxpower damnnickname@yahoo.com wrote it could be something easy as a dirty throtte body try cleaning it out. the blade and the inside bore glenn can you explain it a little bit more thank you very much. i glenn beasley chrysler tech 1999 dodge ram about 55000 miles 5.9l engine. today was a cold morning about 5f. i drove to the train station and was parking my pickup. engine was warm by this time. i backed out of the parking spot a bit and then put my truck in forward at which point the engine stopped. i was able to turn the key off and restart it instantly so no big trouble. i would like to know what may cause this behavior. thanks i -- .

i have a sort of formula. look at the size of denny ok 61 205 lbs put both feet on the damn scale. then figure how much food it takes to fill that stomach not near as much as it used to. in my younger days i could inhale a 14 pizza and look for more. now a filet-o-fish from mcdonalds is about right. that would be the munchie you spoke about. multiply by at least three huge meals a day. maybe two medium ones and some munchies during the day when the hands arent too awful greasy.. this is between lunch and dinner. has to be one hell of a feed bill so thats yer cost for the rabbit pellets. gbfg roy that really sounds like a cheap way to heat a dwelling. maybe i should develope a shit furnace and market it on the east coast. think there is a market for it youre so full of it you could keep the whole family nice and toasty. vbg oh lashing out again bfg the pats have kept the field uncovered this past week through some snow and a lot of rain. it was 60 degrees this morning 30 now. will be about 25 at game time with 15mph wind and a chance of flurries. roy .
