Q: craig@metronet.com wrote hi all the last post regarding bio-diesel was back in early february. just wondering if anyone has read/heard/experienced anything about this im in dallas and there is a bio-diesel producer here that has two stations one in addison and one in denton i think. both of which pump b100 i.e. 100% not blended. and in a small area south of dallas carls corner willy nelson supposedly has a filling station that pumps b20 20% bio 80% petroleum. i read that cummins endorses up to 5% blend. the company that has the two stations here in dallas pull around a portable tank filled with bio-diesel with a ram 3500 that runs b100 with no problem. i suspect that the reason cummins endorses a 5% blend is that bosch who makes the injection systems used on cummins engines last time i looked endorses a 5% blend. when it comes to fuel i have found bosch to be extremely conservative when it comes to alternative fuels. when i talked to a bosch engineer about possible modifications required for running vegetable oil i was told i should go look up envirocrackpots.com. this is boschs corporate attitude toward alternative fuels. basically its a case of we dont care we dont have to were the largest manufacturer of diesel injection equipment in the world we have you by the short-and-curlies and we know it. i have gotten this feeling from bosch every time ive dealt with them about anything. ive been running b100 in my two old trucks with no problems and the only thing ive had to do was replace old rubber fuel lines with new synthetic ones. and this is on mid 1980s isuzu engines with v type rotary pumps. my feeling on it is that you should be able to run b100 with no problems and youll probably find that your trucks run better on it. mine do. ap interesting i would be interested in running bio fuel too but its not a recommended fuel in my 2005 3500. i think ill stick with the fossil fuel main;y because i dont want to void my warranty. it would be cool driving down the road stomping on the accelerator and watching all the nimrods exit at the nearest mcds cause you just filled the air with french fry oil.... -- moparman---remove clothes to reply! --scud coordinates 32.61204 north 96.92993 west-- .

i have the exact same problem in my 2000 dodge 4x4 shortbed ram. it doesnt start until i drive it about5-10 miles then the same shifting/popping during stop/start and bumps. mine has only 45k on it. i am going to take it to the dealer on monday. after i did some research i also think it might be the steering column. i first thought it was the steering gear because there was leakage but i think it is the column. has there ever been any tsbs or anything on the steering columns in 98 durangos i find it hard to believe that a vehicle with less than 90k miles on it needs the steering column replaced. if that is the case it would seem like these things were defective or something. mine pops every time i give it gas stop or turn or just hit a bump in the road. i need some help diagnosing a problem with my wifes 98 durango 4x4 with 360 and the selectable part time and full time transfer case. anyway when turning left or right or stopping or accelerating from a dead stop a popping noise is coming from what feels like the steering column. like up under the dash or on the inside of the firewall. also i found a clean gray or silver bolt that was broken in half under where the wife usually parks her durango. the bolt was around 1.5 inches and had a locking nut on it. i dont know for sure if this came off the durango but the popping noise appeared about the time i found that bolt. i have looked under the hood for a missing bolt and havent found one yet. i havent removed the plastic under carriage covers yet to see if that might reveal a hole somewhere in need of a bolt with locking nut. the steering wheel and column do not feel loose. the popping noise also seems more pronounced after the vehicle is heated up or it is above 60 degrees outside. the steering pump does have a little whining noise and i have had the wife turn the steering wheel left and right repeatedly while i watched the power steering and linkage move. no audible popping while that was going on either. im just before taking it to the dealer and letting them try to find the source of the popping. any help here would be much appreciated. ben took it by the local dodge dealer and they said the entire steering column needed to be replaced at a cost of $1200 just for the steering column i believe and then another $300 to install it i think. ill have to look at the form they gave me again. nah i dont think i can stand to glance it over again. the durango has under 90k miles on it and looks good and drives good except for that occasional popping sound. heck it dont even do it with me much but it does with my wife shirley muldowney. .

on sun 10 apr 2005 082919 -0500 mike simmons mikesim@yhti.net wrote i tried this ng in both ways; nice/full of shit and mean/honest. obviously the mean/honest approach stirs responses and reveals the best from the ignorant. so ill be mean and honest. recently did a d47 ball joint recall on a durango and noticed the brakes were real thin. customer responded to the writer by saying; why are you selling me crap i dont need when i just want the recall done that i need after that i chose not to mention the leaking front shocks and loose tie rod ends not under warranty on this vehicle. after all if brakes arent important why is suspension and steering two weeks later the customer returns and complains to the service manager that we did not recognize the loose rod ends and midas who did their brake repair that they did not need. . . remember did notice the problem. as a dealer we are cons for recognizing needed repairs while performing warranty services yet we are idiots and inferior to independents when we dont. make up your minds. waiting to hear from the warranty kings and queens who have stories of repairs that should have been done under warranty. read the manual that you never opened and came with the vehicle its not covered. well brent it seems that your attitude is your worst enemy. too many times stealerships try to tack on extra work during recall and minor service calls that really isnt needed and people hear stories about it all the time. i would even go as far as to say that the stories heard make the problem seem far worse than it actually is and are greatly responsible for forming this attitude with the customers. then you can tack on the dealerships rather high labor rates and parts costs and can you wonder why people react the way that they do the point is that you also have an attitude when the customer doesnt listen to and do everything that you say and think that they are asses and will be given and told nothing and that make you the biggest ass of all. hows that for being mean/honest the fact is that it was your responsibility to tell the customer everything that you knew was wrong with the car regardless of their attitude and because of your bad attitude you didnt do it so you deserved to get complained about to your manager. what if one of these parts you chose not to tell them about failed and caused the customer to get into an accident would you justify your actions of not informing him/her by your complaint above you actually should be fired if you keep this shit up. -- if at first you dont succeed youre not cut out for skydiving stealerships hmmmmm... there would be hell to pay in this ng if i referred to customers in such a disparaging manner...... but stealerships passes thru with comment...... double-standard surely not! mike interesting. a lot of the dealers on tdr resent that word. i would too if i were in the business. the dealership that i go to isnt the greatest but they do good work. they charge a ton but i really dont resent that their mechanics and employees need to make a good living too. i make a decent wage and dont resent them doing the same. on the one hand i wish that they would show a little more concern for the problems that we customers bring in but on the other hand some of the things that they have to deal with would drive me crazy too. i just try to treat them right and for the most part they do the same for me. yup! the golden rule applies both ways! yes the term stealership is resented. those who use it paint with a mighty broad brush. when confronted they always say somthing like well i was screwed by a dealer once.... and proceed to relate a story that paints the dealer in a bad light. well in over 30+ years in the business i could relate stories about customer antics that would make dealerships look downright honest! but based upon the antics of a few to paint the rest...... nope. remember you are usually treated by others the way you treat them. mike .
