1999 Dakota Clutch Fan Questiom?

From : tbonekevin

Q: it could also be the alternator causing it. is this the original belt is it beginning to glaze over how old is the battery -- if at first you dont succeed youre not cut out for skydiving i think my clutch fan is going.when i start up my truck when the engine is coldi hear a loud but short whining noiselasts a second or two when engine gets at peak starting rpmsabout 1200 rpms and the whinning goes away when engine goes to idleabout 600 rpm.and then if i try to rev the engine in parkabout 1200 rpms just after starting the engine in a short burstjust like when i first start the the engine i dont hear the whine.also when i start the engine warmi also dont hear the short burst whining either. socan this indicate a clucth fan starting to go bad i can still hear a light whining when i get under the hood while engine is runninghot or cold.and when idling or reving.but with all the other noise i cant tell exactly where the noise is coming from.i just know the noise is in the front of the engine.could a water pump does this or would it whine loud all the time i had a bad water pump on a 91 acclaim so i remember how loud that wasso i dont think the water pump is making the noise.though i did use some stop leak addative for a leaky sealwhich is still workong after a yearcould the addative block up the weep hole if the water pump was going bad im guessing the clucth fansince i would guess its only making this whining noise cause the fan cant catch upto rpms fast enough from a dead stop at starting cuase of faulty bearings.what do you think also there is slightbut no much play in the fan when i wiggle itwhen stopped of course. .

unless you actually have something of value to say which i doubt will ever happen i am done with you. rotflmbo!!!!!!! i tommy-interpret this to be a really funny joke. boy you need to tell more of these. i read it as common american english to be a lie. how can you talk of saying something of value when you change your own values faster than most people change their underwear mr hypocrite to say something of value means to express an absolute meaning to your words a truth yet you claim there can be no truth to your words because you can interpret them any way you want. it cannot be a truth and a non-truth because one will cancel out the other. if you want the truth in your words then you must stick to it and not interpret into them what isnt there for if you do change the interpretation then it becomes a lie and destroys your meaning. if you give no truth no value to your words then anything you say cannot be accepted as anything other than background noise nor can they be believed by anyone. either way you become someone that is best ignored and not to be trusted. iow tom this statementunless you actually have something of value to say which i doubt will ever happen i am done with you. is either an absolute lie or it is an absolute truth and in either mode it is not open for your special interpretations or any interpretation by anyone. and now we wait for the truth . . . . . . -- budd cochran in tribute to the united states of america and the state of israel two bastions of strength in a world filled with strife and terrorism. ------ .

i am considering a .030 bore pop-tops a 3/4 cam and larger injectors and throttle body. nothing extreme just confortable. no you are not considering pop-ups you might consider zero deck flat tops or reverse domes . other than that i dont know what kind of pump gas you figure on using 3/4 cams went out when j.c. whitney went bankrupt. since all the major camshaft manufacturers have people who deal with camshafts and recommendations all day long call one. they have 1-800 numbers so it wont cost you. personally i like comp cams but any of the major cam outfits are good. i hope you figure on using a dfi and not a throttle body sitting on an intake. if you are considering throttle body you may as well toss the computer etc over the fence and use a carburetor. now there are companies that make piggy back computers that hook up to your original one and are programmable. id check with one of the companies who make superchargers for the late model 3185.2 or 3605.9 engines. i have a friend who put a mopar performance 380 crate in a late model dodge pickup. the price of the computer work etc doubled the cost of the crate engine. have fun ill start watching reality tv shows when i can vote people off the planet. .

@aol.comnet.org says... he actually kept the fan from spinning by pressing one finger on it... *shudder* kind of a sharp learning curve if you screw up i have done that in the past but i use a long screwdriver to hold the fan. not my finger. my old 73 dodge truck started overheating a long time ago and i opened the hood to find the fan almost not even turning. now that was a bad clutch. chas .
