From : andy
Q: hello everyone have not been her for a while but i need a little help. every once in a while my 1999 durango sounds an alarm and it says check gauges when i check it my temp is pinned all the way to hot. it will stop ringing and then the temp will slowly come down. is it maybe the thermostat or is it just a crazy dash short any comments would be helpful. andy .

the fact that it is sounding the check gauges alarm indicates that it is probably not a crazy short in the dash. it sounds like it could be a sticking thermostat or perhaps an air bubble in the cooling system. did you have the coolant changed recently -- if at first you dont succeed youre not cut out for skydiving hello everyone have not been her for a while but i need a little help. every once in a while my 1999 durango sounds an alarm and it says check gauges when i check it my temp is pinned all the way to hot. it will stop ringing and then the temp will slowly come down. is it maybe the thermostat or is it just a crazy dash short any comments would be helpful. andy .

my 99 d did the same thing on the way back from st. louis a couple months back. the water pump had disintegrated and the belt tensioner seized up not sure in which order. it wasnt fun. i would check the belt the tensioner and see if theres any play in or leakage around the water pump pulley. having said all that i hope its just your thermostat! hello everyone have not been her for a while but i need a little help. every once in a while my 1999 durango sounds an alarm and it says check gauges when i check it my temp is pinned all the way to hot. it will stop ringing and then the temp will slowly come down. is it maybe the thermostat or is it just a crazy dash short any comments would be helpful. andy .

hi andy i had similar trouble...here is what i found. my coolant was slowly leaking out via auxilliary coolant pump that is located on the passenger side firewall. the engine would overheat about every 3 months due to this slow leak. of course the check gauges chime rang when the temperature reached maximum. changed the pump. ron hello everyone have not been her for a while but i need a little help. every once in a while my 1999 durango sounds an alarm and it says check gauges when i check it my temp is pinned all the way to hot. it will stop ringing and then the temp will slowly come down. is it maybe the thermostat or is it just a crazy dash short any comments would be helpful. andy .
