1998 Dodge Ram 5.9L shuddering on hard acceleration

From : adam

Q: i cleaned my air filter again checked my spark plug wires and all my fluids. i have not checked my spark plugs... i have platnum +4s. i also checked the plenum gasket as described in a post on from the right hand valve cover but leave the pcv valve attached to the hose from the intake manifold. reomove the breather hose from the left-hand valve cover that goes to the air cleaner. plug-off the connection at the valve cover. with the engine idling place your thumb over the opening where the pcv valve was located. after about 10-15 seconds you should feel positive pressure... this means the gasket is sealing properly.. if you have a vacuum the gasket is leaking and should be repaired. according to this my gasket is fine. it happened to me a couple more times today both with the overdrive on and off. without a load my truck was in park i was able to rev up to 5000 rpm without a problem... it seems to happen most when i am leaving work and acclerating onto the interstate from a stop. it feels like the rev limiter has been hit and the fuel cut-off is in effect but the engine is only around 3000-3500 rpm. has anyone seen this problem or have any suggestions im leaning away from it being a fuel pump problem as it happened however less often or i noticed it less with the old fuel pump and still happens with the new one. unfortunatley im not getting any check engine light messages to look for an error code. any help is very much appreciated!!! thanks!!! adam .

joe that is correct. if i step on the gas it will not accelerate but will shudder... however if i leave my foot down long enough it will eventually stop suddering and accellerate. if i let my food off some it will accelerate fine. thanks adam when you step on gas to speed up does it just shudder run up to about 4000rpm and stay at the speed your at also if you eased of on the throttle will it then speed up let me know i cleaned my air filter again checked my spark plug wires and all my fluids. i have not checked my spark plugs... i have platnum +4s. i also checked the plenum gasket as described in a post on from the right hand valve cover but leave the pcv valve attached to the hose from the intake manifold. reomove the breather hose from the left-hand valve cover that goes to the air cleaner. plug-off the connection at the valve cover. with the engine idling place your thumb over the opening where the pcv valve was located. after about 10-15 seconds you should feel positive pressure... this means the gasket is sealing properly.. if you have a vacuum the gasket is leaking and should be repaired. according to this my gasket is fine. it happened to me a couple more times today both with the overdrive on and off. without a load my truck was in park i was able to rev up to 5000 rpm without a problem... it seems to happen most when i am leaving work and acclerating onto the interstate from a stop. it feels like the rev limiter has been hit and the fuel cut-off is in effect but the engine is only around 3000-3500 rpm. has anyone seen this problem or have any suggestions im leaning away from it being a fuel pump problem as it happened however less often or i noticed it less with the old fuel pump and still happens with the new one. unfortunatley im not getting any check engine light messages to look for an error code. any help is very much appreciated!!! thanks!!! adam .

i just went through that similar problem with mine. a 98 ram 1500 5.2. anyway the catyletic convertor was clogged and also an oxygen sensor. dodge wanted mega bucks to repair this but i found the convertor on ebay and ordered the sensor from another dealership. picked it all up took it to my exhaust guy and he installed all of it cheap. first thing i did have to do was have dodge run a diagnostic on it to find out which sensor and tell me the convertor was clogged. if you need more info email me direct i dont always check the group. hope this helps joe joe that is correct. if i step on the gas it will not accelerate but will shudder... however if i leave my foot down long enough it will eventually stop suddering and accellerate. if i let my food off some it will accelerate fine. thanks adam when you step on gas to speed up does it just shudder run up to about 4000rpm and stay at the speed your at also if you eased of on the throttle will it then speed up let me know i cleaned my air filter again checked my spark plug wires and all my fluids. i have not checked my spark plugs... i have platnum +4s. i also checked the plenum gasket as described in a post on from the right hand valve cover but leave the pcv valve attached to the hose from the intake manifold. reomove the breather hose from the left-hand valve cover that goes to the air cleaner. plug-off the connection at the valve cover. with the engine idling place your thumb over the opening where the pcv valve was located. after about 10-15 seconds you should feel positive pressure... this means the gasket is sealing properly.. if you have a vacuum the gasket is leaking and should be repaired. according to this my gasket is fine. it happened to me a couple more times today both with the overdrive on and off. without a load my truck was in park i was able to rev up to 5000 rpm without a problem... it seems to happen most when i am leaving work and acclerating onto the interstate from a stop. it feels like the rev limiter has been hit and the fuel cut-off is in effect but the engine is only around 3000-3500 rpm. has anyone seen this problem or have any suggestions im leaning away from it being a fuel pump problem as it happened however less often or i noticed it less with the old fuel pump and still happens with the new one. unfortunatley im not getting any check engine light messages to look for an error code. any help is very much appreciated!!! thanks!!! adam .

then write what you mean. and the t-flites are mainly used on stock or near stock mopars at the drags. gm and ford owners tend to stick with that corporates transmission. youre implying everyone uses them. budd clare wrote you are right budd - i meant torqueflite. the 727 and 904 torqueflite transmission was as durable and reliable as they came. they are still used in a lot of drag cars. .
