1997 Ram High Beam Problem
From : tomasz b
Q: need help with my 97 ram 1500. the high beams stay on and dont turn off even if the truck is off . had to remove my fuse to turn off the lights multi-function switch is jammed on. i assume you tried wiggling the stick around a bit... the switch will most likely need to be changed out. this is a minor pita to do because it involves removing the steering wheel which involves messing with the airbag. .

that right now get started - -- if at first you dont succeed youre not cut out for skydiving iirc you dont have to remove the steering wheel to replace the dimmer switch. it is a minor pita though since it requires a tamper-proof torx bit #20 i believe which most folks dont have. youre right - the wheel can stay on. i was thinking of some other vehicles that ive helped change the switch on and they all had to have the wheel pulled. in this particular case you just need to remove the knee bolster panel and the steering column covers to get to the switch. my local ace hardware sells a set of security torx bits for $5 or so. hey - wait a minute... i was wrong about something and you corrected me. arent i supposed to attack you now grin .

i would suspect you have dirty cable connections not just at the battery but on every cable end. cleaning them would help locate any other causes if it doesnt fix it. budd hello. i am new on to this site but hope someone can help me. i have a 1997 dodge dakoda sport that wont start on its own. at work is when it first gave me problems and so i would have someone jump start me and the engine would start just fine. for a couple of days i wouldnt have any problems and then all of a sudden it wouldnt start again and i would have to get it jump start again. at first i thought about just not running the a/c which know was draining the battery. but thats not the problem. so i went to wal-mart and got another battery. well now the light in the cab is on bright but as soon as i turn the key to start the engine the light goes dim and i can hear the fuel pump relay clicking loudly and then fading out. nothing out of the engine and seems the battery voltage is dropped. i jump start the engine with my wifes van. in order to get it started i would have to press the gas pedel and it would start and then i would have slowly take my foot off the pedel if i take it off to fast then the engine would stop. but after that the engine would start and run just fine. once the engine was running i unplugged the positive lead on the battery and the engine would stay running. i just cant figure this out without paying $60 just to have it put on the computer i dont know if i was sold a weak battery or if it could be the starter but if so why do i have to press the gas pedel when i jump start it. i just had the fuel pump filter and modulator replaced less than 2 yrs ago so i am hoping to rule that out. any suggestion is welcome. thank-you. .

on sun 05 sep 2004 202622 gmt tbone t-bonenospam@nc.rr.com wrote tbone wrote lol what an idiot and you claim to actually run a company that is not what i said and you know it. when the money being brought in by taxes exceeds what is needed then a permanent tax cut is just and that is the only time. define needed. give the gov. money and they spend it. oh wait youre one of those that believes there was a surplus in the 90s and cant understand the term projected. lol thats right miles. there was a surplus of money comming in that was being used to finally pay down the national dept so i guess that pretty much blows your theory of they always send it all to hell. it was called projected becauase thinhs could change like some idiot giving a massive tax cut and then starting a war. oh for crying out loud tom. get a grip man. you can be incredibly stupid. bush did not start the war he just stood up to the terrorism. did you ever hear about 911 or any of the other acts of terrorism that started the war geez yeah right bush should have apologized to the terrorists when they attacked our country. he should have offerred them money and peace. yeah that would have been a great move tom. you might even try applying some logic to your thought process if you can find a way to see through your conspiracy fixation. if bush was planning on starting a war in a few months would he have given out that tax cut you think he is that stupid man you need to be able to think for yourself. you probably think the movie by that fat cat michael moore was true. it becomes unfair when it has a significant effect on their standard of living and not anyone elses. and you define what that significant effect is thats the problem tbone it is not your right to define what is too much for someone else. so that means that there is no such thing as too much. lol just more right wing spin in a vain hope to justify your greed. the sad thing is that people like budd buy into it. lol you are right they should not. there is a difference however between what they earn and what they just take and they should have a conscience and know when enough is enough on that side but that is not the case. so since your moral standards and conscience are obviously superior then it is your right to tell those filthy rich greedy people that they have too much and need some more taken from them. sorry tbone it is not your right to tell others they have too much and need some more taken. you are correct it is not just my right it is the right of all of the people in a society when it is being taken from their pockets. you keep whining about the unions but they came into power for a reason and with the way things are going they will be comming back. while i put no limit on what anyone should make because they choose to hoard the most money then they should pay the most to support the system that gives them the opportunity to be so greedy. they already do pay by far the most back but it isnt good enough for you because they still have too much. you refuse to state how much of each $ they earn should they be allowed to keep. because there is no way to do that and being the owner of a buisness you know that. it depends on how much the employees make how many levels there are in the company and the true work involved. now i know that you will just whine and spin it some more but i doubt that you can even justify your salary. yea i know your investment over twenty years ago but that has paid you back many times over and is now nothing more than a justification of your greed. lol i do believe that there is. what would you consider a fair limit 30% in federal is high enough. top that with state and other taxes paid and the wealthy pay plenty. now lets hear your figures that you refuse to state. i would say closer to 50% for the highest. i would also raise the lower limit on paying any taxes at all to 15000. and with that what would you consider a fair limit in the number of times the highest paid employee should be over the lowest you already agreed that limiting ones salary as a comparison to what someone else makes is absurd so why are you yet asking again just because i make more doesnt mean the walmart greeters job is now worth more. boy talk about spin!!! that is not really what i said now either answer the question or admit that you cant. you answer mine and ill answer yours. i answer all the time no you have not. you do not bring up that issue in easily saying the wealthy dont pay enough. no factors required for you to say that. because in order for them to be wealthy they are bringing in far more than they need and you have yet to describe how they actually earn that much money. lol nice right wing distortion there. like i said before there is a big difference between what

cool thanks! on sun 05 sep 2004 204533 gmt tbone t-bonenospam@nc.rr.com wrote i was looking at that myself. the manufacturer recommends not using your cooking oven for that and the oven must be electric. i suspect that there will be an odor left in the oven and some residual flammable gasses. you can go to some instructions on eastwood tools web site www.eastwoodco.com/text/content/techlib/hotcoat/hcoriginst.html for more information. .

yea your probably right. do you know of anyway or place to check that. even after all these years i just cant get used to those damn buttons for the horn and now the left on is sticking. -- if at first you dont succeed youre not cut out for skydiving hey tom do you know if the steering wheel from the 98 will fit the 97. i dont know for sure - never had the wheel off my 99 to know if its splined the same as the 94-97. i would guess that it wouldnt given the interior changes from 97 to 98 but thats just a guess. .

i would agree with using the wrong thermostat being part of the problem but that should have little effect when cold. why do people insist in messing with things for no valid reason i would also check the tps and the iac motor. -- if at first you dont succeed youre not cut out for skydiving ok hears the deal. the truck idles rough especially when cold but doesnt have any trouble starting and when i accelerate or rev the engine and then get off the gas the engine bogs and the rpm drops very low before returning to normal sometimes even stalls. eats gas too alomst seems like its running rich. vacuum diagnostic doesnt show anything to be wrong with the engine internally. doesnt burn any oil ond compression test showed the rings and valves are good. brand new catalytic converter fuel pump coolant temp sensor water pump egr valve pcv valve fairly new plugs and wires and new 160 degree thermostat. cant find any problems with the fuel injectors no vaccuum leaks and no ignition problems as near as i can figure. my uncle says maybe the cooler temp thermostat is throwing the computer off and causing it to run rich seems like a good idea but any other advice would be greatly appreciated. .

this is why i question the requirement. it seems to be written in such a way as to make any vehicle severe duty. thus making it very easy for dc to blame me if i have a problem related to oil. paranoid gary maybe. maybe not. i personally have not heard of this being an issue. i just plan to cover my ass and not take a chance. its doubtful longer intervals would cause any problems but im not going to give em wiggle room when it comes to my 7 year warranty. ; .
