hi cricket did a little looking around for some stuff --- heres some info you might be able to use. http//www.allpar.com/resources.html has the following link if your manual is out of print try moparmanuals. http//www.moparmanuals.com/mopar/main/products.asp they have high-quality 1914-1989 factory service manuals and parts books on cd-rom including a clever front end to help you find what you need. you can get 10% off if use coupon code 255727. they are authorized by chrysler. following the link i found 1987 dodge rwd dakota truck service manual #81-370-6010 near the bottom and they want $65.00 for the puppy. its pricy but if you do a lot of work yourself this cd might be something to buy. i have not found anything in print though. best of success!! richard/ .

hey steve i dunno if thisll help but... my 98 1500 360 auto that is now my fathers truck has some weird problems with the fuel gauge. he has called me a few times to tell me the gauge is so low hes afraid he cant make it to town he lives about 8 miles outside a small town and wants me to be on standby in case he runs out of fuel. i had begun to suspect that someone was siphoning gas from his tank until one day he was at my house and fired it up and i watched the thing after hed told me he was almost out of gas and didnt understand it because hed had half a tank the day before start climbing after sitting near empty for several seconds. it wound up climbing over several moments to almost a half a tank. i have not troubleshooted the problem so i cant help you there. but i can tell you youre not the only one with some odd fuel level problems. fwiw. please let us know what you find to be the trouble with yours. --hc .

durango 99 replaced airbags and engine stalled immediately after starting. little bit of gas would keep it running tho. check engine did not light. after disconnecting & reconnecting the battery it now runs fine. i wonder what could be the problem here airbag control module was replaced as well could it have interfered with pcm or something airbag light is off btw... peter presumably when you replaced the airbags you disconnected the battery. this erased the memory in the pcm and it had to relearn the basic idle parameters. it sometimes takes a few minutes of idling/driving to do this. mike .

update the gauges from summit arrived friday and the fue pressure gauge was the correct style z series black on black ring/background-face of gauge white letters reddish/orange needle and was 0-30 psi so im not sure why the manufacturer and 4 wheel parts didnt list it. i installed the fuel pressure sender on the test port on the injector pump. i had to buy a flare-nut and a 1/8th npt 90 degree elbow both in brass and braze them together to make an adapter for the fuel pressure sender. i didnt want to cut any of the fuel lines and put in a t and since there was as port on the injector pump that seemed like the way to go. so far after a short test drive at midnight last night the adapter i made doesnt seem to be leaking. ill carry the valve core that i had to remove of course and the cap and a valve tool with me so if i get on the side of the road somewhere with a leaky fitting i can remove it and put the factory stuff in to get me home. interesting note at least for me not ever having had a diesel with a boost gauge on it before at idle the boost gauge shows zero pressure and the port in the intake that i put the fitting in neither blew nor sucked air when i removed the tube to see what the problem might be i thought the gauge wasnt working or that the tube was kinked or something. the gauge seemed to run fine on the test run showing around 20+ psi at wot or wfo whichever you prefer. i installed a trans temp gauge because i could and i put the sender in the pto cover plate on the drivers side. i built up a little cage around it using some 5/16 cold rolled metal rod and it looks slick well i think. this is an important lesson if you drain the trans fluid on the manual transmission specifically a nv 4500 catch it in a clean container. i didnt and at 91k i figured it wouldnt hurt to replace it. i was wrong. the fluid was factory perfect but i didnt know it until it was already draining into a crappy pan. that stuff is 15+ dollars a quart from the dealer so there went about 80 bucks on fluid i bought 5 quarts to be sure id have enough dry fill on it is 4 quarts and my re-fill took a little over 3.5 quarts. its synthetic and they put stickers on each pto cover telling you to use only that and since it seems to be a new vision sticker not a dodge sticker i think they mean it i say its a nv sticker because it lists not only the mopar part number for the fluid some 7xxx4459 or something number but also a gm number 12346190 is the gm number its easier for me to remember it. i will drive the truck for a while now and see how the fuel pressure holds 17 psi at idle around 11 psi at wot but thats only after one test run and i was tired well see how it runs over several trips to be sure. oh and the pyrometer from auto meter came with its own cable to run from the sender to the gauge. do not cut that wire. -/ i didnt read the instructions that far it was the last installation note on the back of the page and it says to not cut that wire because itll effect its accuracy. so i had cut it of course and i had to splice it back together and just hope and pray that its right. i may contact auto meter for a replacement or see if someone can calibrate the gauge ive got now. sigh live and learn. the oil pressure sender went perfectly into a hole that had a plug on it on top of the oil filter mount. i have taken pictures of most of this stuff so if anybody wants them and can tell me where to post them ill be happy to do it. fwiw. --hc .

i dont know about the orientation of the oil filter on your engine but a trick we use on the cummins engines is to put a gallon-size plastic bag around the filter as we remove it. works rather well. cheap kitty litter works well on small messes. hawkeye65 wrote anyone have a clean and neat way of changing oil on these trucks i like the fact the engineers placed a tray underneath the oil filter to help catch the oil but i still have a time doing it without making at the least a small mess. i would appreciate any insight to this simple but crucial task. tia hawkeye65 .

ive got a 97 ram with the 5.2 engine and it takes about 4 or 5 seconds to get it started. i replaced the fuel pump about 6 months ago so im sure it gets plenty of fuel pressure. where do i need to start looking to figure out what is keeping it from starting quickly when i first got the truck it would take just a quick turn of the key to get going. thanks. .

hc wrote bryan on the manual i mean the factory service manual not the owners manual. i felt like your answer was referring to the owners manual which i dont think explains the adjustment of the transmission bands. not trying to be hateful just trying to be sure were on the same page. and i hate to ask this but i have to since i was involved just yesterday with a you gotta be joking of course i checked that problem with a friends 02 intrepid and some shifing problems...you did check to see that it had enough fluid right we serviced my friends auto tranny on his wifes intrepid and it was slipping; only to find out that the initial read of the fluid level was incorrect and it needed three more quarts i still dont know how we got that wrong. also check the fluid spec on that. i think yours and my old one are atf+3 but make sure theyre not atf+4 i dont know what the difference is...but it cant hurt to be sure you have the right fluid in there. fwiw. --hc ok thanks i was referring to the owners manual........and yes i did check the fluid twice to be sure......as for adjusting the bands is this something i can do as a layman or should i just ask my tranny guy about it the only work ive ever done on my cars/trucks is oil changes and brakes im not what you would call mechanically inclined..... if the work that you have done to a vehicle is limited to oil changes i would strongly suggest taking it to your transmission guy. not that its an incredibly difficult job to do but if you get it wrong it can cost you $$$$. -- if at first you dont succeed youre not cut out for skydiving .
