Q: gentlemen all i am considering the purchase of a 1 or 2 year old 2500 series ram diesel probably with the 4 door cab. i would like some feedback about whether or not to shop for the automatic or just have some fun with the 6 speed. what should i look for since this will be my first diesel i seem to notice the resale value of all diesels drops dramatically from new is it just me or is there a good reason any and all info will be good for me at this point. thanks in advance mark m. .

sigh when it rains it pours. my hubby took the day off and while driving the truck first the radio intermittently cut out display and sound... driving it a bit later the radio cut out again then completely and he noticed the turn signals also would not work. went home turned truck off called dealer drove it over to the dealer later and all was working fine. of course since it was fine upon arrival dealer wouldnt even look at it but said that turning it off and back on may have fixed the error darn rebooting the truck fixes it wow. when i got home i looked for codes but no new ones. any clue what this could be my understanding is the radio and turn signals are on two separate circuits... so why would they both go out at the same time. as it was daylight we dont know if any other lights were affected. the recall concerning rerouting the wiring under the clutch was just done last week... any help appreciated. we thought maybe it was migrating water as a power hose was used on it last week by the dealer to clear off the radiator fluid all over the drivers side of the engine... jmc bad ground .

actually from every survey that i have seen the allison that sits behind the duramax has the highest incident of repair i dont doubt it a bit. three light duty diesels. isnt the cummins classified as a medium duty diesel so far my 48re has been pretty solid. same here. both my 48res are doing just fine and one pulls heavy every day. i got two frineds with fords one a 6.0 and one a 7.3. both are on their second tranny. i just bought another f350 a couple weeks ago http//utilityoffroad.com/forum/topic.asptopicid=9298 and although i wish it had a cummins the 7.3 stroke is a solid engine. no tranny issues either from any of my 7.3s perhaps im just lucky. my brother on the other hand had his allison rebuilt under warranty. i dunno how many miles are on the truck but its an 05. certainly to early for a tranny rebuild. -- nathan w. collier http//utilityoffroad.com http//7slotgrille.com http//inlinediesel.com http//bighornrefrigeration.com http//concealedcarryforum.com http//1911carry.com http//glockcarry.com .

i dont know about you but i would like to see the superduty with a cummins/allison setup i was watching a motor show and they said more than likely dodge will be dropping the cummins engine from the dodge truck line in favor of a mercedes diesel sometime around 2010 after the cummins contract expires. i heard the same thing. when daimler chrysler drops the cummins in arrogance my money says well see chrysler sales plummet faster than in the 80s. i didnt buy a dodge.....i bought a cummins. if ford ends up with the cummins ill end up with that king ranch f350 ive been wanting. -- nathan w. collier http//utilityoffroad.com http//7slotgrille.com http//inlinediesel.com http//bighornrefrigeration.com http//concealedcarryforum.com http//1911carry.com http//glockcarry.com .

when my o2 sensor went i never got a check engine light either. on tue 5 sep 2006 235131 -0400 morgans jsmorgan@charterjunk.net wrote desertbob desertb@rglobal.net wrote not strange at all. thats caused by running too rich a mixture constantly and/or very retarded ignition timing. both can be caused by a shot o sensor open/intermittant wiring to ecm sensors or a defective module. in the case of the o sensor failure most systems are designed to run way too rich if the system is in open loop mode. the check engine light never indicated any shot items but oh well! .

it was a typo.. it shopuld have read 1985.. the 5 got left out.. it is a 225.. the motor is fudged though..oil by the rings etc from the seize.. i have a 1992 dakota low km motor 318fi that is sitting around.. i will put the 318 in and rebuild the 2 slants i have here. thanx all.. some guy emailed me and said to change the bellhousing and dump a 350 in it.. lol a dodge with a 350 would insult most dodge owners.. but it would be different chevrolet wrote well should say was seized.. but now it starts then shuts off .. no fuel. the guy i bought it from flooded the engine so much that after he ran it 10 min it seized.. well i get the truck and like to tinker so i take all the plugs out and dump some diesel fuel.. let sit 4 hours then dump oil in all the cyls....come back 3 hours later and crank it it slow spurts..but it clicks like it is seized solid...so i wait another hour and roll over time.. pissin oil all over.. put the plugs back in and fire it up.. it starts runs 2 seconds and stalls.. have to use starting fluid.. it sounds good. running for the whole 2-3 seconds.. will this motor be okay.. or should i dump the 318 magnum in it and convert to fi .. any thoughts on why it wont run after gas is dumped in it .. etc would be great. thanx 318s are a dime a dozen. the slant six is quick becoming extinct. i would invest in rebuilding the 225 and keeping the truck original. john .

thanks to all who responded-- i was out of town until last nite late- will check out the wiring in next few days thanks again. on tue 05 sep 2006 031654 gmt tom lawrence tnloaswpraemnmcien5g@earthlink.net wrote when i replied i was under the impression that the poster was asking about leaving the drivers door open. i now see that he probably wants to have any or all doors open without hearing the chime. its more work but it still has to be done by spoofing each door ajar sensor as the chime is integrated into the instrument cluster and cant be easily disabled on its own. in this case one could obtain all four wires at the instrument cluster connector. to remove the instrument cluster remove the two screws that hold the cluster bezel in place. these are on the underside of the bezel and youll need a short stubby phillips to get them out. once the bezel is removed four screws hold the cluster in place. pull the cluster forward and disconnect the electrical connectors. of the three cluster connectors youre looking for the 26-pin gray connector. pins 1-4 are the four door sense circuits 1 - violet drivers door 2 - violet/gray left rear door 3 - violet/yellow right rear door 4 - violet/white right rear door. again depending on the operation of the door latch youll either need to tap into all four wires and switch them to ground or cut all four wires and insert a switch into the electrical path. my guess would be that the circuits are grounded when the door is closed but double-check just in case. if they are grounded when the door is closed resist the temptation to just tap all four to the same spst switch. youll disable you door ajar sensors completely this way unless all four are opened. you need to use a 4-pole switch probably need to go to an electrical supply place for this - not something radio shack would carry. .
