'05 Ram 2500 diesel questions...

From : jeremy

Q: oil filter is located at the top passenger side front of the engine. the pan plug is a 3/8 square so if you have a ratchet and extension you are set. you will want to change the fuel filter at some point as well. use the appropriate socket to remove the cannister lid. using a square socket will crack the boss and lead to a headache. the engine heater cord should plug in just aft of the oil filter on the passenger side of the block. -- max there are four boxes to be used in defense of liberty soap ballot jury and ammo. please use in that order. -ed howdershelt author merry christmas yall! havent read the group much lately here but always was able to find the help i needed here before and i had a few questions for yall on the cummins diesel. i just bought an 05 2500 earlier this year and they took care of the first oil change for me but its that time again and im a little lost. i had a 360 gas engine in a 94 1500 before and got to know it pretty well but i cannot find the oil filter on the diesel yet. i also noticed that the drain plug looks to be a square indention rather than a normal bolt head so it looks like i need a new tool. anyone have any ideas on either of these for me additionally im supposed to have the engine block heater installed but it didnt come with the cord to hook it up. so ive got the cord now but i dont know where it hooks into the heater at. can anyone point me in the right direction thanks for your time and hope yall have a great christmas! -jeremy .

my abs light and branke stay on. they will not go off. i cannot find the problem. please help. hows the speedometer behave particularly below 20mph if its also erratic the most likely cause is a failed rear wheel speed sensor. its on top of the rear differential and comes out with a single bolt. it will cost under $40 for a new sensor and should take about 5 minutes to change out. if the speedo. isnt erratic its still a posibility that the rwss is bad/performing poorly. it could also be a failed front wheel sensor low brake fluid air in the abs pump an abs pump/controller failure etc. all this is assuming you have 4-wheel abs. unfortunately the abs system is proprietary and most shops dont have the equipment to diagnose it directly anyway. thats something only a dealer can do. on a 98 its possible to disconnect two of the three wheel speed sensors at a time and use the speedometer to see if theyre good. ive done this before. the rear sensor disconnects on top of the rear differential. the front sensors disconnect at a gray connector on top of each front inner fender panel follow the wire next to the brake lines coming off the front calipers. drive the truck with one sensor at a time hooked up. if one of them fails to allow the speedometer to register youve found the bad sensor. .

i have a rwd old chevy car tho and i put bags in the truck to control weight distribution. even in the summer if you hammer it on a loose surface you could break traction. nothing wrong with fixing what the manufacturer got wrong. except that youre increasing the total weight of the vehicle and therefore reducing your city mileage. another fix ive heard of is to install the battery in the very back of the vehicle. other than the long cables its weight-neutral and really helps shift the center of gravity to the back. -- spuddemon -at- thundermaker.net the above may not yet represent the opinions of my employer. .

i have a 2001 dodge dakota with a 3.9 v6 and 58000 miles. recently when stopped at a stop light the oil pressure needle drops to the bottom. it happens consistently. in fact anytime the engine is at full operating temperature and the engine is idling the oil pressure drops to 0. i took it to my mechanic last week. he took the sending unit off and installed a manual oil pressure gauge. the pressure at idle was indeed 0 psi. at higher rpms he said the pressure would rise to around 40-50 psi. his diagnosis the engine needs to be rebuild. has anyone else had any experience with this situation i would like to at least get some more opinions as it seems premature to have to rebuild an engine at 58000 miles. are there any alternatives to rebuilding the engine thanks for any help in advance brant .

that may be a fly by wire throttle. your pedal talks to the pcm which in turn opens the throttle. the two may not be communicating consistantly. if you have traction control that may be part of the problem. -- max there are four boxes to be used in defense of liberty soap ballot jury and ammo. please use in that order. -ed howdershelt author my dodge van has an intermittent problem. i start the engine and then try to move and the engine does not respond to the accelerator. it is a dodge 3500 with a v8 2001 model. when i restart the engine it will perform in a normal manner. any ideas bob .

dear fellow artful dodgers some jerk cut the pigtail off the oxygen sensor on my exhaust on my mostly 86 225 ram it should go to the electronic spark control unit ecu my shitty haynes manual shows only wiring for efi models my 91 ramcharger service manual is too old of course i cant find a decent service manual when i need one my other 86 ram is not the same and neither are the other 2 looked at wiring for other models since the truck is a farm truck saw no salt but a creative mish-mash of 80s rams still cant find the wiring but napa also says they have a part for this model and the butt end looks like the plug which is what is left of the o2 sensor anyone have a proper chrysler service manual and could look this up for me pleeease tia rach i have several manuals including the 86. as near as i can tell youre looking for the n11 circuit an 18 ga. black wire. from the o2 sensor it goes through an 8 way 4x2 connector on its way to the spark control computer. im sorry i cant help more than this. .
