'04 Ram scratches on windows?

From : scott shirley

Q: i have an 04 ram and have noticed that my windowswhich i had tinted last summer by a reputable shop are showing very fine vertical scratches in the tint. i am certain they are scratches as a few are deep enough to feel. i took it back to the tint shop thinking that certainly the tint was at fault. the tint shop says that the window rollers in my truck must have some foriegn material that is scratching the windows. he did offer to retint the glass but explained that it would only be a matter of time before the new tint was scratched up too. it just seems odd to me that a 1 year old truck that is mostly driven on the highway not off-roaded would have something on the window rollers that could scratch the tint. anyone else have this problem .

i have worked six months as a auto glass tech and have never seen a design where the surface area of the glass comes into contact with any roller. if your glass is scratched there must be something gritty in the weather stripping. or the stripping is stiff by design the tint being softer is going to do the giving and wear through. -- from the desk of jesse a. harrington on tue 29 jun 2004 015139 gmt scott shirley none@none.com wrote you might do a google search of this topic... while fighting senior moments i seem to remember a problem someone had last year of window scratches on a new truck no tinting involved.. it seemed the solution was some adjustment or alignment of the window frame or rollers.. i have an 04 ram and have noticed that my windowswhich i had tinted last summer by a reputable shop are showing very fine vertical scratches in the tint. i am certain they are scratches as a few are deep enough to feel. i took it back to the tint shop thinking that certainly the tint was at fault. the tint shop says that the window rollers in my truck must have some foriegn material that is scratching the windows. he did offer to retint the glass but explained that it would only be a matter of time before the new tint was scratched up too. it just seems odd to me that a 1 year old truck that is mostly driven on the highway not off-roaded would have something on the window rollers that could scratch the tint. anyone else have this problem if you live where they sand the roads in winter or are at the beach a lot you will probably have it happen again. roy i live in dallas where we dont get much weather in the winter...not enough to need the sand trucks. i keep the truck pretty clean even in the winter months and that is what has me so puzzled as to how the rollers could get enough garbage on them to scratch the tint. the inside of my truck only gets a little dusty from having the windows down. im just a little frustrated that i am going to have to get the windows re-tinted a year later. sucks. mac .
