kathy scrovitch wrote does anyone know how to disable the seatbelt chime. the dealer said its part of the computer and cant be done just bought a 2004 durango and am not sure how many other models this may apply to but here is how i turned mine off... 1. get in the truck and buckle the seat belt. 2. insert the key and turn it to the on position but do not start. 3. wait 6-10 seconds for the initialization sequence to complete. 4. unbuckle the seat belt and rebuckle it three times ending with the belt buckled. 5. there should be a single chime to confirm the seatbelt chime has been toggled. 6. turn the key off. this does not completely disable the chime but does allow you to drive with the seat belt unbuckled without having to listen to the chime forever. it also does not disable the the seat belt warning light on the dash. .

obviously we have to follow the law when on the road but my reason for disabling the chime is when were doing other things with the truck just like woody mentioned. thanks anyways. on sat 17 jul 2004 194132 -0400 cbhvac webmaster@removethis.carolinabreezehvac.com wrote does anyone know how to disable the seatbelt chime. the dealer said its part of the computer and cant be done -- kathy yup and its so damn easy its not funny.. use the seatbelt as it is designed for. when nc passed the click it or ticket laws we all hated the fact that now we had to buckle up... funny..i wont consider not using the belt now.. try it..it works to silence that awful chime.... we always use the seatbelts when on the road because we all by ourselves think it a good idea. however some of us actually use a truck for truck type jobs around the lot/farm or whatever. when i am out at night in a snow storm plowing our 600 long steep driveway with my head out the window backing up i dont need that seatbelt or the chime. or when i am moving firewood from the lower lot up to the house i dont need the seatbelt or the chime. so ill put it on when i should all by myself without any help thank you. woody in central live free or die nh .

cbhvac wrote does anyone know how to disable the seatbelt chime. the dealer said its part of the computer and cant be done -- kathy you cant just pull out a chime module like the old days. its all controlled by the computer and unless you really know your stuff and have all the right equipment you cant change it. but you can always fool the computer. the switch that feeds the computer is in the retracter portion of the belt. its normally open. when you pul out enough of the belt it closes the spst switch to ground and the computer turns off the chime. so cut the two wires and splice them together. the computer will think the belt is always retracted. sounds good on paper and might actually work. yup and its so damn easy its not funny.. use the seatbelt as it is designed for. when nc passed the click it or ticket laws we all hated the fact that now we had to buckle up... funny..i wont consider not using the belt now.. try it..it works to silence that awful chime.... personally i would not drive my truck - on or off road - without the seat belt. i think seat belts are a good idea. it is a small annoyance. but the safety factor is so high that i just cant think of a good reason not to use it. i also think driving down the highway without a seatbelt is absolutly foolish. but who am i to tell you whats a good idea and what isnt shouldnt you have the right to choose for yourself youre an adult and you can make foolish decisions if you want to. it doesnt affect anybody but you so why should i stick my nose in i fell the same way about helmet laws for motorcyclists. -- ..bob 1997 hd fxdwg - turbocharged! 2001 dodge dakota qc 5.9/4x4/3.921983 gmc jimmy - mountain beater 1966 mustang coupe - daily driver 1966 ffr cobra - ongoing project .
