04 Ram - Rubber Door Seal
From : kathy
Q: i have had my truck for 8 months now and noticed the corner of the door where it meets the top of the fender is rubbing the thick rubber weather stipping. the rubber now has a big chunk missing just from opening and closing the door! i kind of pissed with this design and can see that is going to be an ongoing problem even if the dealer replaces it! anybody have any suggestions. -- kathy .

02 03 04 are the same body design. kind of sounds like they changed the weather stripping. on my 03 i can hear road noise through the top and front edges of the door although i have no problem with leakage or wear. maybe the 04 design is different to reduce the road noise bill does the body style of your 02 look any different than an 03 04 that was the last year of the old body design. i decided to check mine after reading the posts here. mine is a 2002 quad cab 4x4 1500. no damage to the seals on either side. i bought it used in february. i has 27000 miles on it. wonder what the difference is ed on thu 05 aug 2004 160403 gmt kathy kathy.kujo@rogers.com wrote i have had my truck for 8 months now and noticed the corner of the door where it meets the top of the fender is rubbing the thick rubber weather stipping. the rubber now has a big chunk missing just from opening and closing the door! i kind of pissed with this design and can see that is going to be an ongoing problem even if the dealer replaces it! anybody have any suggestions. thanks for the heads-up. after seeing your post looked at my 2004 with 4000 miles on it and both sides have the same problem. it looks like the door designer and the weather strip designer never met. i can see that you are correct; replacing the strip with a new one of the same design will not solve the problem. im sure that winter would finish off the strips on both sides of my truck. ill ask the dealer next week. they will probably point out that there would be no problem if i climbed in and out of the window. woody; 95fxds .

my 03 1500 doesnt rub there at all. that leading corner of the door clears the rubber by a small fraction of an inch. did they go to thicker weatherstripping in 04 maybe your door is slightly misadjusted. bill i have had my truck for 8 months now and noticed the corner of the door where it meets the top of the fender is rubbing the thick rubber weather stipping. the rubber now has a big chunk missing just from opening and closing the door! i kind of pissed with this design and can see that is going to be an ongoing problem even if the dealer replaces it! anybody have any suggestions. -- kathy .

i dont think it is because the doors are not aligned properly. the passenger side is starting as well. the rubber does have a double hump so maybe it is thicker than the 03s. guess more is not better. my 03 1500 doesnt rub there at all. that leading corner of the door clears the rubber by a small fraction of an inch. did they go to thicker weatherstripping in 04 maybe your door is slightly misadjusted. bill i have had my truck for 8 months now and noticed the corner of the door where it meets the top of the fender is rubbing the thick rubber weather stipping. the rubber now has a big chunk missing just from opening and closing the door! i kind of pissed with this design and can see that is going to be an ongoing problem even if the dealer replaces it! anybody have any suggestions. -- kathy .

kathy thanks for posting that information. ive owned my new 04 3500 just over a 1000 miles and went to look at the weather-stripping. just as you described the drivers door has ripped the weather striping and the passenger side is rubbing as well. the drivers door gets more use so that has ripped first. i can see water getting into the drivers side when it starts raining in oregon. please let me know what is done in your case. ill be reporting mine to dodge and the dealer. randy i have had my truck for 8 months now and noticed the corner of the door where it meets the top of the fender is rubbing the thick rubber weather stipping. the rubber now has a big chunk missing just from opening and closing the door! i kind of pissed with this design and can see that is going to be an ongoing problem even if the dealer replaces it! anybody have any suggestions. -- kathy .

thanks! but no it hasnt been fixed. i havent been to the dealer yet but they did get the heads up. and hopefully everyone else with a 04 ram can get the word out too. maybe it could result in a recall. bottom line dodge really needs to redesign the weather stripping! for now i dont want them messing with it they will probably just make it worse. i will just wait and see what happens i guess. at least i know now im not the only one with this problem sorry guys! thanks for replying its better knowing that its all the 04 rams. kathy 2004 1500 ram slt qc 4x4 hemi .. .. ======== ======== kathy.kujo@rogers.com kathy asks .. i have had my truck for 8 months now and noticed the corner of the door where it meets the top of the fender is rubbing the thick rubber weather stipping. the rubber now has a big chunk missing just from opening and closing the door! i kind of pissed with this design and can see that is going to be an ongoing problem even if the dealer replaces it! anybody have any suggestions. -- kathy =========== =========== kathy i wish i could give you some good advice. but..i cant. and i see from the thread that there are others that cant too. but there was some that could. so i hope youre prob was fixed after all. .. marshmonster .
