03/04 Dodge Cummins Diesel fault of white smoke on start-up

Q: if it had to guess i would say you have a faulty egr valve hamging up thus in turn the map sensor sees a low vacuum simulating wide open throttle..... when not needed it is thinking the vehicle is under load and giving all the fuel it can give. you would almost have to have a scanner detected to read sensor values and engine related fault codes glenn beasley chrysler tech runs good when first start in morning....after about 45-60 minutes starts missing..sometimes real bad......lots of black smoke from tail pipe...misses when idle.....when you first start it it idles perfect....blows big puff of black smoke when first start it..when it starts missing it drinks gas.....ant clues.....appreciate any help i can get....thanks mike......cheekspro@webtv.net .
