i got my ram back today they replaced the valve cover gasket and a couple of freeze plugs. well maybe that was it but im kinda thinkin ill be back there again. well see. its all clean now and ill keep a closer eye on it. fmb a tad is ok. hmmmmmm... sf bay area huh you may not have a switchover there although a lot of truckers fill up and head to the northern climes from there so you may. check with your fuel vendor. mike you are correct more like a tad. not sure about the winter fuel in the sf bay area. ill have to ask. fmb a lot longer or just a tad a tad longer is not abnormal in colder weather as the fuel is not as volatile as it is when warm plus your fuel vendor may not have switched over to winter fuel as yet. mike mike thanks i appreciate it. i have an appointment later this week. as far as starting i always wait for the light ot go out but it has to crank longer before it starts up now. fmb fmb based upon your description it sounds like you have a slight leak at the headgasket. i suspect your dealer will want to replace it. the pink stuff is likely the coolant since it is the new hoat coolant which is orange/pink. a leaky gasket in and of itself will not set a code so im not surprised there are none there. the pink around the threads of the plugs is likely the sealer used in assembly not coolant. the wait to start light will take longer to go off as the weather cools since it takes longer for the heater grid to warm up. on very cold days it may be as long as 30 seconds. hope this helps! mike 2003 2500 ctd ho 6sp 25k miles oiled and greased regular i found oil at the junction of the head and block. all of the passenger side is wet just the junction not top to bottom but mostly around cyl 3 & 4 back to the back. additionally the two verticle bolts on the passenger side of the head on either side of exhaust #3 have a pinkish stuff all around the bolt head. if i could collect all that pink stuff i could fill a thimble. there are also a couple of plug lookin things here but although they look like a little pink around the threads it may be overflow from the other. the oil does not look like oil from a sloppy oil change. the pink stuff is the color of cotton candy but ill not taste it this week. im guessing coolant. the coolant in the radiator looks full and good. im going to make an appointment with the dealer but i would like to have an inkling as to what is happening before i get there. is the dealer just gonna torque the head replace the gasket oh the codes. after the key-on-3-times trick it says done. also the truck runs like a champ. hasnt been a problem but it is taking longer to start in the morning now. i kind of attribute that to cooler weather 50s but could be wrong. thanks -- fmb only one b in fmb .
