02 Cummins Lift Pump

From : hc

Q: hey folks. i have a 2002 ram 2500 with the cummins td regular output not the high output and ive got a problem; low lift pump pressure. i have checked the fuel pressure on the low side of the injector pump and it shows 5 psi at idle and jumps to zero on throttle up. i use a fuel transfer tank bought new and i only run street-legal diesel in this truck and that tank and yet there was enough trash introduced to the system that it managed to seemingly trash my lift pump about 300 bucks just to buy the pump. lift pump is around $150.00 in us. .

i use norton because i cant afford to run an apache or cheyenne server for protection. its the best product for the money. the free stuff is a virus or worm. so avg is a virus avg free edition is available free-of-charge to home users! http//www.grisoft.com/ http//www.grisoft.com/doc/40/lng/us/tpl/tpl01 .

nosey wrote jarno wrote nosey wrote jarno wrote hi all i have -96 3500 and need tail and headlights for it those should be e-approved. that means same kind of mark on lamps as sae or dot. does anyone know place where i can buy these. jarno do you need replacement bulbs or complete light assemblys housings and lenses i probably need complete assembles to both ends. it might be that lenses could be enough. go to www.dodgeparts.com click on oem catalog at the top then do a parts search from there. i visited there but they dont have e-approved lamps i think that nobody has make that kind of lamps for ram so i need to invent something else from other car lamps. thank for all for answering my question. .

question. i have been told the v10s are not very reliable.. something about the head gasket i have no idea if this is true or not. does anyone know anything about this or is it just some chevy owner fib pretty much untrue... early models 94-95 had an issue with the intake manifold gasket - dealer issued a recall and took care of the problem. later models did have some cylinder head porosity problems - my 99 had a head that weeped coolant into the valvetrain area. after a bit of arm-twisting i had it replaced under warranty. neither problem was very wide-spread... certainly not to the extent of say the v8 plenum gasket problem or the gm piston slap fiasco. my 95 v10 has had very little done to it other than routine maintenance. in fact in over 100000 miles ive never touched the engine except for the obvious plugs wires filters belts and a fan clutch. .

jmc wrote ok so heres proof that its just way too wet in england my black line-x liner is going green. regular washing doesnt change that. any suggestions on how i can get rid of the moss lichen or whatever is growing in my bed washing my truck is much like grooming a horse - gives me a chance to find all those little nicks and whatnot hiding under all that dirt. its been a very hard winter on the poor dak. it stays damp here in the winter literally for weeks at a time and they grit which has salt almost nightly because the frost is thick enough to make the roads slick much like black ice. aaugh. shes got more rust than a 2001 should have underneath. but the dragon is now clean and shiny and waxed i even shined up the chrome and theres no rain predicted at least until monday. and its sunny and warm well for here anyway. ive started gardening and broke out the lawn chairs hubby just mowed the lawn... life is good. but the bed is still attempting to match the rest of the truck and that just cannot be allowed to happen. suggestions needed! jmc maybe a swimming pool supplier can recommend something. they usually have chemicals of that type in bulk at resonable prices. .

well yeah bleach in the gallons. but you might also look into finding out what they treat motel shower curtains with. i seem to remember reading the tags on motel shower curtains and them saying something about treated with...something ... to prevent mildew. i could be wrong and it wouldnt be the first time but if theres some chemical like that then maybe it would save you from having to periodically clean/scrub your bed. --hc .

just an update i have not yet been able to find check on the replacement cost of a module its the weekend but i have come to some conclusions of what to do about the lift pump and the filtration of the fuel before it gets to the lift pump. i couldnt look at the factory item because it was in a sealed box and they told me i couldnt return it if it was opened but i did find one at a local oreillys and it was not only less expensive but wasnt in a sealed box so i took a few seconds to look at it; it looks like nothing fancy at all and that it might have standard 1/4 npt thread inlet and outlet openings. if thats the case then 1 i could easily buy any aftermarket fuel pump and just install the correct fittings from the factory pump on it providing that the factory wiring harness provides a standard 12v to that connection to drive the pump and then southern engineer the wiring to the aftermarket pump and hodge-podge a way to mount it in place and presto i should be in business. if i can find a way to put cheap pumps whether 150.00 dollar pumps as ive seen on a site relayed to me in response to my original post or some marketer of general automotive supplies then i will no longer have to sweat the filtration of the fuel. my reasons are that if i can just dump that pump for a new one every so often then to heck with trying to cut into the factory lines and find a spot that will accomodate a filter and also avoid the problems/questions of adequate filtration on a suction-operated system the filter before the pump so theres nothing but suction atmospheric pressure pushing the fuel through the filter. that seems like a good solution when combined with the following two key items 1 i will put a kick-ass filter on both of my transfer tanks to prevent contaminents from getting into the primary/factory fuel tank and 2 i will install a manual gauge in the cab of my truck that will indicate to me the pressure being supplied to the injector pump; so if the lift pump whatever shape form make model etc. that it happens to be ever starts to eat itself or if the fuel filter the one in the big housing just before the injector pump ever starts to clog up or for whatever reason the system ever starts to provide low pressure to the injector pump ill know it. the biggest problem i think i face now is the uncertainty of the condition of the injector pump; it may have been starved for fuel long enough over the 5000 miles ive noticed this problem starting occasionally and getting worse and more frequent that it may have been damaged; not enough to fail but enough to not be operating at 100%. ill never know when it finally dies i plan on putting over 400000 miles on the truck if it was because it was just its natural time or if it was because i blew it by not properly filtering my diesel from transfer tanks into the primary/factory tank. since the lift pump seems to use standard npt fittings not sure of that yet but it looks like it it should be no big deal to install a manual pressure gauge on the system and run that in the cab; perhaps a regular 0-60 or 0-80 psi fuel pressure gauge ill know better after reading the shop manual about the operating pressures put out by the lift pump and by observation once i have the new lift pump in place and a guage installed. that way i should be able to avoid having to replace a 1400.00 to 2000.00 depending on who you get your price quoted from dollar injector pump. whee isnt this fun thanks for everybodys help. --hc .

whenever it rains the engine light comes on my dodge grand caravan and sometimes the radiator fans continue to run after i turn off the engine. they 2 fans will run until the battery is dead. it never happens when it is not raining. i swapped a couple of the relays around and the problem did not show up again. yet a couple of days ago the engine lite came back on coming back to dallas from east texas in heavy rain. this time the radiator fans did not continue to spin and run down the battery when i turned the engine off yet by the time i got home it was not raining. i took the van to autozone and they read the computer code for me. they did not know what it means. in a previous post i was told it was the radiator relay under the aircleaner box but i cannot see any relays underneath there. all the relays appear to be beside the battery and a few under the dash yet there is nothing labeled radiator fans in the bank of relays. searching https//www.rockauto.com i did find some relays that almost look like the ones in the relay bank next to the battery. but what caught my attention was the one that looks like http//www.rockauto.com/ref/smp/smpdetail2.htmlry330.jpg it is labeled engine cooling fan relay i am wondering if this is mounted on the chassis somewhere maybe under the air filter box as i was told earlier. i have 2 questions 1. does the engine cooling fan relay mount on the chassis and if so where is it located can i see it without removing the air filter box. 2. what does the code below indicate is wrong. this is what the autozone ticket says troublecode obdii alpha p code p1491 secondary switch solenoid circuit mulfunction any ideas thanks in advance... -- john behneman john dot behneman at gmail dot com .

you people make way too much out of nothing at all. people are just trying to make a buck. i would much rather have them post adds in the groups where i can simply ignore them then send that crap to my email where i have to deal with it.. -- if at first you dont succeed youre not cut out for skydiving steve@carolinabreezehvac wrote groups-abuse@google.com mac please remove splinters before emailing dont ya love how both posters originated from the same point and the responder refers to the original author by name ken in reply which is never mentioned publicly. .

my point is simple. if youre a friend i figure youll answer a question in the reply about how youre doing. takes all of a minute or so. denny and gary g have both done so for example. if you dont then imho youre just being nosey. im not one to bug others with nosey emails i only ask for the same respect. how about i just have someone post the funeral notice a month or so after im gone till then ill be in whatever health i have at the time. -- budd on mon 14 mar 2005 133854 gmt budd cochran mr-d150@citlinkspam.net wrote i might mistakenly expect a reply back from you. if youre not going to be a friend dont ask about me. its none of your business. well i actually think that several of us have asked that question as of late including me. sorry it pissed you off but at least on my part i was just hopin you were ok. sounds like you are. well...hell..i give up..every damn time i mail you it bounces back..used every one of the addys i have...sending one more with a modification to the addy since i seem to remember that i had to and then m out of options.. .

much for that. have you actually bought stuff from them have you ever had to deal with their customer service complaints or kudos ive bought from tenafly on numerous occasions. the only thing ill say is it helps to not be in a hurry for the parts... sometimes they dont get the orders out for a few days often because they have to order it themselves from a regional warehouse. dont go there if you need something overnight but definately do go there if you want the best price. .

From : hc

thats not precisely helpful. i was under the impression that it was a dealer item only. ill contact some auto parts stores to see for sure; wouldnt be the first time i was wrong about something. you could have gotten it from any cummins distributor or from any of several on-line sources for factory parts - these guys always seem to have the lowest prices http//tinyurl.com/6yur7 .

goo1959@cableone.net writes technology has gotten a long way hasnt it! ;- cripes my wifes 93 caprice got 22 mph last trip with the air on driving 75 mph with four people in the car. try that in a hybrid! plus the trunk is big enough to hold 2-3 bodies and the rear seat leg room is good. the darned thing has 150k miles on it too. it is large enough so it feels like you are sitting in a car too not wearing it! back in the mid-1990s our 1993 4200-lb land-yacht lincoln town car 4.6l v8 rear-wheel drive monster consistently got 19 in town and 2627 on the highway with the trunk loaded down w/luggage and the a/c on and cruise set on 75. imagine what i could have got with the a/c off empty trunk no passenger no full-sized spare and plodding along at 55! i think the bottom line is its a conspiracy by the big oil companies and auto manufacturers to stick it to the american consumer. theyve got us by the short hairs and they know it. were addicted to our cars like children are to candy. car-pooling only works for that tiny percentage of milque toasts who have been successful in controlling this addiction. im sorry but my car/truck is my freedom. the only thing thats going to happen when gasoline is $10/gallon is it will be costing me $260 to fill up but i will still be out there with the rest of the motoring addicts driving. by the same token the tree huggers also share some of the blame. just look at how theyve phuqued things up in california. already theres a $1/gallon price differential between cal. and the rest of the us. .
